India secured a total of nine medals at the 2024 Asian Wrestling Championships.

The 2024 Asian Wrestling Championships, which were taking place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, ended on April 16 (Tuesday), with the Indian contingent securing four silver and five bronze medals. A total of 30 wrestlers represented the country in the Asian Wrestling Championships, with 10 each in men’s freestyle, men’s Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle events.

The Indian wrestlers failed to secure a medal in the men’s Greco-Roman event. However, they bagged a handful of accolades in the other two events. In men’s freestyle, Udit won the silver medal in the 57kg category, while the likes of Abhimanyu (70kg) and Vicky (97kg) procured bronze medals with their gritty efforts.

In the women’s freestyle event, Radhika (68kg), Anju (53kg) and Harshita (72kg) aced silver medals. On the other side, Shivanee Pawar (50kg), Antim (65kg), and Manisha (62kg) also finished on the podium with bronze medals. A lot of Indian wrestlers decided to skip the Asian Championship as they are currently preparing for the Asian Olympic Wrestling Qualifiers starting at the same venue on April 19.

The list included the names of Aman (57kg), Sujeet (65kg), Jaideep (74kg), Deepak Punia (86kg), Deepak (97kg), and Sumit (125kg) in the men’s freestyle event, while the likes of Vinesh (50kg), Anshu (57kg), Mansi (62kg), Nisha (68kg), and Reetika (76kg) will be the Indian representatives in the women’s singles.
