India has already clinched a quota in women’s 53kg division.

India has announced a 17-member wrestling contingent for the Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualifiers in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, scheduled to start on April 19.

The squad, brimming with talent and ambition, will compete in the qualifiers scheduled from April 19 to 21, following closely on the heels of the Asian Championships at the same venue.

India’s representation spans all categories, except for the women’s 53kg division, where the nation has already clinched a quota thanks to Antim Panghal.

Aman Sehrawat will spearhead the men’s contingent. He is set to represent India in the 57kg category. Sehrawat’s season began on a high note with a gold medal at the Zagreb Open, where he defeated China’s Zou Wanhao in the final with an impressive score of 10-0. Sehrawat gained significant attention during the national trials, where he defeated the 2020 Tokyo Olympic medallist, Ravi Dahiya.

The women’s wrestling team includes Vinesh Phogat, who secured medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2022 World Championships, and Reetika Hooda, the reigning Under-23 world champion. Reetika will participate in the 57kg weight category, while Vinesh will compete in the 50kg category.

There will be four qualifying tournaments across the globe: Pan-America, European, Asian, and African/Oceania. The best two wrestlers from each category in these tournaments will get to go to the Olympics. They will join the top four from each category and one more wrestler who wins a special match. But in these tournaments, there won’t be final matches for gold or bronze.
