The Samoa or Anoa’i family is one of the greatest families filled with professional wrestlers, who originated from America’s Samoa territory. The members of the Anoa’i family have been in the wrestling industry for generations and have achieved great heights in various wrestling promotions. The wrestling industry has witnessed some of the greatest tag teams, stables and biggest stars from this iconic family. So here we rank the top five best wrestlers from the Samoan family tree.
5. Rikishi
Solofa Fatu Jr. popularly known as Rikishi is known for his run in WWE from 1992 to 2004. Rikishi is known for his infamous signature manoeuvre “Stink Face” and “Too Cool” dance, which made him famous during the Attitude Era. The 400-pound Hall of Famer has been the Intercontinental Champion once, World Tag Team Champion twice, and WWE Tag Team Champion once.
He has some of the memorable feuds with Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, The Undertaker and The Rock. Although he had some of the main event moments, most of his wrestling career was in the tag team division and mid card matches. Thereby, he is ranked fifth in our list.
4. The Usos
Jonathan Solofa Fatu (Jimmy Uso) & Joshua Samuel Fatu (Jey Uso) are twin brothers combinedly known as The Usos. The Usos are the sons of WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi, who are one of the greatest tag team wrestlers in the modern era. The Usos achieved a remarkable milestone in the tag team division by holding the Tag Team Championship for 622 days.
They won the Raw Tag Team Championships three times and SmackDown Championships five times. They are the first team to hold both Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships simultaneously and the first Tag Team Champions to defend their champions at the main event of WrestleMania. Agatupu Rodney Anoa’i most popularly known by his professional wrestling name Yokozuna is one of the greatest Samoan wrestlers. Although he was portrayed as a Japan Sumo Wrestler during his wrestling run, he was an American Somaon.
The 580 pound giant is considered as one of the biggest wrestlers in the industry and is the first samoan wrestler to hold the WWF World Heavyweight Championship. He had one of the shortest runs in WWE of 6 years, where he had won the WWF Championship twice and WWE Tag Team Championship twice. He passed away at the age of 34 in 2000 and was inducted into WWE Hall of Fame in 2012. “The Tribal Chief”, “Head of the Table”, Roman Reigns (Leati Joseph “Joe” Anoa’i) is one of the greatest wrestlers in the modern era. He is the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion with a historical run of 1040+ days reign, marking the longest championship reign since 1988.
He has been the WWE Champion four times, WWE Universal Champion two times, WWE Intercontinental Champion once, WWE United States Champion once, WWE Tag Team Champion once and the first wrestler to hold both WWE and Universal Championship simultaneously and for a longer time.
