WWE Superstar Spectacle in India: Backstage rumors
WWE is returning to India for the first time since 2017 on September 8, 2023 at the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium at Hyderabad. This is the second edition of the WWE Superstar Spectacle, where the first edition was held at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida due to COVID19 pandemic.
Featuring WWE Superstars
With weeks away from the live event in India, WWE has advertised some of the featured wrestlers for the show including, the 16-time World Champion John Cena, World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley, Intercontinental Champion Gunther, Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, Jinder Mahal, Drew McIntyre, Natalya, Becky Lynch, Veer, Sangha, Matt Riddle, Ludwig Kaiser and more.
Will WWE Superstar Spectacle be streamed on Peacock?
As the event is exclusively scheduled for Indian fans, it won’t be aired on Peacock but will be aired as a local special event across Sony Sports Network in India.
Dave Meltzer on Superstar Spectacle
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reported that India is the second largest TV revenue stream next to the United States. However there are certain problems in selling the tickets to draw the fans to watch it live as attending sports events other than cricket is not so usual in India.
WWE has organized the show in G.M.C. Balayogi Stadium in Hyderabad for the first time with an occupancy of 35,000 to 45,000 fans. As per Meltzer, the main focus of the company is not to pull the audience for the show, as Sony Network is the one who brought WWE to India. The only reason for hosting the show in India is to increase the popularity of WWE in India.
