Jey Uso faces Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title
Roman Reigns is one of the greatest wrestlers of the modern era. He is playing a villainous role in WWE, carrying the company and his family legacy on his shoulders. Since returning to the company and aligning with Paul Heyman in 2021, he has been a great heel and achieved success that nobody could ever dream of.
He formed a stable “The Bloodline” with his cousins Solo Sikoa, Jimmy and Jey Uso. The stable was extremely successful, and captured almost all the World Championships and Tag Team Championships of both the brands.
Despite great success, tensions started to rise inside the group due to multiple betrayals since the beginning of the year. The tension has reached a point where The Usos left the stable and became a great threat to Roman Reigns. At Money in the Bank, The Usos went to defeat Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa, making Jey Uso the first wrestler to pin Roman Reigns in three years.
Roman was then put in a trial at the tribal court, where Reigns and Solo showed their brutality on The Usos. Jimmy got injured and admitted for medical assistance, on behalf of Jimmy, Jey appeared later the same night and challenged Roman Reigns for a match at SummerSlam. Reigns accepted and signed the contract, but Jey ordered the contract and asked him for a torn paper and asked for a Tribal Combat Match.
Most of the WWE fans went confused on what the match is actually about, to give a clarity about the match Paul Heyman spoke about the Tribal Combat history on this week’s SmackDown.
What did Paul Heyman say about Tribal Combat Match?
With a day away from SummerSlam, “The Wise Man”, Paul Heyman came to SmackDown and spoke about the History of Tribal Combat Match. A video documentary was telecasted on the screen explaining the history and culture of Samoan dynasty. In which, wrestlers of the Anoa’i family were featured, talking about the importance of the match. Paul Heyman explains that, according to the tradition of the Somoan dynasty there could only be one Tribal Chief and the chief of the dynasty is not given a crown, but with a Red Jewel known as “Ula Fala”.
The Chief is the one who carries the family’s legacy on his shoulders and is the protector of the dynasty. The only way to become the “Tribal Chief” is by fighting on Somoan norms that is through “Tribal Combat”, where everything is legal. To have a Tribal Combat match one should have permission from their ancestors before challenging the existing one.
Heyman added that Roman Reigns is one such leader, and he is pretty sure that Jey Uso will never become the Tribal Chief at SummerSlam. Jey Interrupted and the segment ended in a brawl between Jey and Solo.
