Who should be CM Punk’s first rival after WWE return?

After years and years of waiting, CM Punk is finally back in WWE after nine long years. He made a surprise return to the company in the final minutes of WWE Survivor Series: WarGames in his hometown Chicago, Illinois. WWE hasn’t spilled a word on his return and kept the talks highly secret, making it one of the most surprising returns of all time.

With Punk finally back in the company, who could be his first rival. Here we speculate some of the WWE stars who Punk could have his first rivalry with.

Shinsuke Nakamura

Shinsuke Nakmura has been teasing about having a rivalry with a mystery opponent. He had a number of references to CM Punk in his video promo. It could potentially be CM Punk. Nakmura has used Punk’s finishing move GTS, his entrance theme lyric references and his notable promos. Considering all of these, Nakamura could probably be the first one to pick up a rivalry with Punk.

Seth Rollins

When CM Punk returned to Survivor Series, Seth Rollins tried to have a heated confrontation with him, which got leaked on social media. He was stopped by commentators and fellow WWE superstars to stop him from involving in a brawl. This heated confrontation could make Seth Rollins the first prey of Punk.

It is clear that Rollins is not happy with wrestlers returning and taking his spotlight. Punk also used his reference in the past during his feud with Shinsuke Nakamura. He used the tag “Best in the World”, his popular promo characters such as “puppet”, “manipulator” and so on.

Finn Balor

Finn Balor could be the one to confront CM Punk with Judgment Day and potentially initiate the first rivalry of Punk upon his return. Judgment Day might try to recruit him and that might be the possible reason behind that.

A month ago, Balor was asked whether he would be interested in wrestling CM Punk, to which Balor said, “I’d be interested in wrestling a broomstick if someone is going to pay me money. Money talks”. It will be great to see both squared off inside the ring, most possibly in the very first match after Punk’s return.

Kevin Owens

It was previously reported that Punk already had a scrapped plan of having a match with Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 39. However, WrestleMania is far away, the match might happen anytime soon in SmackDown or at Royal Rumble. Although it might probably not be his first rivalry after return, this match is happening anywhere soon.
