Top five Superstars with best debut years in WWE History
It is a dream for professional wrestlers all around the world to get into WWE. Although it is impossible for all to get into the company, some great talents entered the company and made an incredible career out of it. Here are the top five wrestlers who had a great debut year in WWE history.
5. Ronda Rousey (2018)
“The Baddest Woman on the Planet” Ronda Rousey after a great MMA career, made her WWE debut in 2018 confronting the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champion and the Royal Rumble winner Asuka. Rousey had a great debut year in WWE, where she had her in-ring debut at WrestleMania 34 teaming with Kurt Angle and facing Triple H and Stephanie McMahon and won. Rousey won the Raw Women’s Championship the same year. She defended the championship against the former women’s champions.
4. Gunther (2022)
Gunther has one of the most incredible debut years in WWE history. The Ring General made his main roster debut in 2022 and soon climbed the ladder to become the Intercontinental Championship. Gunther stood undefeated for the rest of his career till date and made everyone believe that he is one of the toughest wrestlers to defeat.
His match with Sheamus at Clash at the Castle, received five stars by Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer and is claimed as the best match of the event. It was Gunther’s first five star match in the main roster and fifth five star match overall.
3. Sheamus (2009)
Sheamus made his ECW debut in 2009 and was moved to Raw months after. Sheamus gained a greater attention among the WWE fans for his brighter skin tone and great in-ring abilities. Sheamus became a part of Team Miz for the traditional five-on-five Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team match against Team Morrison, where he picked the final pin and survived for their team along with The Miz and Drew McIntyre.
Sheamus won the breakthrough tournament the following night and became the #1 Contender for the WWE Championship. At TLC, Sheamus won the WWE Championship for the first time against Cena in a Tables match. Sheamus became the third wrestler to win the world championship in a short period of time and the first Irish-born WWE Champion. Sheamus also was awarded the Breakthrough Superstar of the year award.
2. AJ Styles (2016)
AJ Styles made his WWE debut in 2016 in the Royal Rumble match entering at number 3 and lasted for 29 minutes in the match. Styles had a great year hanging out with top WWE stars like John Cena, Chris Jericho and so on. He brought the Bullet club to WWE by bringing Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson and turning heel. Styles was raised as the top star of the company and eventually became the WWE World Heavyweight Champion on his debut year.
1. Brock Lesnar (2002)
Brock Lesnar made his WWE debut in 2002 on Raw as a heel, by interfering during the WWF Hardcore Championship with Paul Heyman and assaulted all the wrestlers in the ring and was claimed as The Next Big Thing of the company. Lesnar had a great year, by winning the 2002 King of The Ring and gained the title shot for the WWE Undisputed Championship.
Lesnar defeated The Rock at SummerSlam to become the WWE Undisputed Champion. Lesnar became the youngest wrestler to win the WWE Championship and the second quickest to reach the WWE Championship since debut. Lesnar had feuds with some of the top stars in the company and in great storylines. This makes it one of the best debut years in WWE history
