The Royal Rumble is a professional wrestling match with battle royal rules, where it is traditionally held between 30 Men/Women Superstars, who enter one-by-one after equal time intervals. The superstars thrown over the top rope to the ground will be eliminated and the last to stand in the ring will be determined as the winner. The winner will be awarded with a guaranteed championship match at WrestleMania of the champion he/she chose.

Here we reminisce about the memorable moments that have graced the Royal Rumble throughout its storied history.

While the event is known for its jaw-dropping surprises and breathtaking eliminations, it has also seen its fair share of amusing botches and fails. In this article, we’ll take a trip down memory lane to explore the top six funniest mishaps in WWE Royal Rumble history.

6. Kofi Kingston spot fails for two consecutive years (2022,2023)

For the past two years, Kofi Kingston has bungled his iconic spit in the WWE Royal Rumble battle.For years, Kofi was known for rescuing himself from elimination in Royal Rumble fights in the most dramatic way imaginable. However, much as in 2022, Kofi failed to prevent himself from elimination during the bout in 2023.

In 2023 Kofi was trying to land on the desk chair, sparing himself from elimination, but things didn’t go to plan for him and he ended up plummeting to the ground. In fact, as you can see above, it appeared that Kofi may have hit the corner of the table as he fell, which might have turned out very terribly.

5. Titus O’Neil’s Slide Mishap (Greatest Royal Rumble 2018)

In 2018, WWE presented the Greatest Royal Rumble, featuring 50 superstars. Titus O’Neil, known for his charisma, entered the Royal Rumble in grand fashion. However, during his energetic run to slide into the ring, O’Neil’s leg got entangled in the wires, causing him to slip under the ring. The incident, now famously known as the “Titus O’Neil slip,” became an instant viral sensation, showcasing the lighter side of the intense Royal Rumble competition.

4. Miz and R-Truth’s Premature Exit (2012)

Miz and R-Truth are known for their entertaining personas, found themselves in an unexpected predicament during the Royal Rumble 2012. Before the match even commenced, the duo breached major Rumble rules by entering the ring prematurely. Consequently, they were disqualified and eliminated without officially participating in the match. This comical twist showcased the duo’s knack for entertaining beyond the traditional wrestling norms.

3. Santino Marella’s Lightning-Fast Elimination (2011)

Santino Marella is a maestro in comedic timing, added a hilarious moment to the Royal Rumble 2011. Entering the ring with high hopes, Marella was swiftly eliminated before his entrance music could fade. Undeterred, he re-entered the fray to avenge his premature exit, eliminating the superstar who ousted him.

However, in a twist of fate, Alberto Del Rio promptly eliminated Marella again, leaving fans in stitches. Despite being a planned botch, Marella’s antics remain one of the most amusing Royal Rumble moments to date.

2. Batista and John Cena’s Dual Victory (2005)

Royal Rumble 2005 delivered another comedic twist in WWE history. As the last two survivors, John Cena and Batista, grappled at the edge of the ring, attempting to eliminate each other, Batista inadvertently tossed himself over the top rope.

Initially announced as the winner, a post-match revelation declared the contest a draw. This peculiar turn of events set the stage for an eventual showdown at WrestleMania, where Batista and John Cena fought for the WWE Heavyweight Championship, ultimately won by Batista.

1. Vince McMahon Tears His Quad (2005)

Vince McMahon, the mastermind behind WWE’s success, is no stranger to making impactful appearances on television. However, Royal Rumble 2005 took an unexpected turn. In the midst of the traditional Royal Rumble match, where Batista and John Cena simultaneously touched the ground, McMahon rushed into the ring, only to suffer a shocking injury.

As he entered, both of his quads snapped, leaving him seated on his posterior throughout the segment, delivering a painful but inadvertently humorous moment.
