Fans react as Cody Rhodes defeats CM Punk at WWE Royal Rumble 2024
Cody Rhodes won the Men’s Royal Rumble match back-to-back for two years in a row. Cody became the first WWE Superstar to win two consecutive Royal Rumble matches in the last two decades. He became the 10th wrestler to win multiple rumble matches and fourth member to win it back-to-back after Hulk Hogan in 1990 & 1991, Shawn Michaels in 1995 & 1996, and Stone Cold Steve Austin in 1997 & 1998.
Ever since CM Punk returned to WWE and announced himself for Royal Rumble, fans wanted Punk to win the match. Punk was the favourite to win in terms of betting odds. Punk was in the last two, however Cody threw him out of the rope to win the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble match.
Cody won it last time, which had a great reception. However, it seems his second win had some mixed reaction from the fans. Here we take a look at WWE fans who expressed their expressions on X/Twitter on Cody Rhodes victory.
Happy Cody Rhodes Fans
Cody Rhodes’ fans celebrated his victory and showed their love towards him. They strongly believe that The American Nightmare would complete his story this time. Cody after winning the rumble match pointed out Roman Reigns and teased that he would be coming after him for a rematch. Fans celebrated the moment and eventually expressed their sorry (not sorry) to fans who wished to see The Rock vs Roman Reigns match at WrestleMania 40.
Some fans felt that winning the Royal Rumble twice in a row gives more prestige to Cody and wanted to dethrone the longest world championship reigns of the modern era.
Another fan who came to see Royal Rumble live from a long way, felt emotional seeing Cody Rhodes winning the Rumble match.
Some say that if Punk had won the Rumble it would have been the most predictable win.
The Cody fans strongly believe that there is less than 70 days left for roman reigns as the Undisputed Universal Champion and he would surely dethrone roman reigns at WrestleMania 40 for the Undisputed Universal Champion and will create a history.
Disappointed CM Punk Fans
CM Punk fans, on the other end, who came to watch the Second City Saint win the Rumble match after 10 years left in disappointment. Punk’s fans showed disappointment in WWE bookings. They wanted Punk to win the Rumble match and challenge Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40. However, their expectations were in vain. Many also said that Cody Rhodes is “overrated”, and Punk’s pot was robbed by him.
Most fans screamed, “Cody shouldn’t have won. That should have gone to cm punk. If they wanted Cody vs Roman pt.2 then they should’ve made Cody do everything he could to get that match at mania.”
A fan showed his disappointment of not seeing Punk win, AJ Lee, Sasha Banks’ return and said that the Royal Rumble is Shi!.
A fan mentioned Punk’s statement that he had not came to WWE after 10 years to watch Dusty’s kid win and posted, “CM PUNK waited whole damn 10 years just to lose to Dusty’s kid who will never finish his story.”
