Five worst WWE WrestleMania main events of last 20 years: Ranked

WrestleMania is one of the biggest and grandest annual professional wrestling events, which is produced by the biggest professional wrestling promotion, WWE. It is the longest running and most successful pay-per-view, which is considered as the festival of the wrestling industry.
More than the grandest event, it is the high-profile match card that makes the show more successful. Talking about the match cards, the main event card plays a major role in the success of the show. However, there were some poor bookings for the main event, which turned out to be worse. Here we have ranked five of the worst WrestleMania main events of the last two decades.
5. Triple H vs Roman Reigns (WWE WrestleMania 32)
Roman Reigns challenged Triple H for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the main event of Mania 32. It is a 30 minutes long match, where the crowd booed Roman Reigns, who was the biggest babyface of the company.
The fans showed no interest in the match and went on to chat with multiple wrestlers’ names who were not even part of the match. WWE at one point even muted the crowd chants. Roman Reigns won the title, but no one was happy with the decision and it was criticized as one of the worst WrestleMania bookings of that time.

4. The Miz vs John Cena WrestleMania 27
The Miz vs John Cena for the WWE Championship main evented WrestleMania 27. The Rock hosted that year’s WrestleMania, who had a feud with John Cena. The match between Miz and Cena had stipulation changes in the middle after a double count out.
There is a major interference from The Rock, which was booked too flat. The Miz won the match after Rock’s involvement and retained his championship. The match was criticized for not having the main event potential and commented that Undertaker vs Triple H in the No Holds Barred match was way better than this and it should have main evented the show.
3. The Undertaker vs Roman Reigns (WrestleMania 33)
At WrestleMania 33, Roman Reigns challenged The Undertaker in the main event of the show in a No holds barred match. The match was booked to project Roman Reigns as one of the greatest wrestlers and to make him the only second wrestler to defeat The Undertaker at Mania.
Taker was unable to wrestle and was stumbling, however Roman speared him and won the match. Taker left his gloves, coat and hat in the middle of the ring to indicate an end to his career. Roman was booed out of the building and a lot of fans felt emotional for Taker’s retirement tease.

2. Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns (WrestleMania 34)
Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 34. The match was purely focused on making Roman Reigns a bigger face. Both Lesnar and Reigns went for a lot of near falls, however Lesnar retained with the sixth F-5.
The match had a huge boo from the crowd, who started chanting “boring”, “this is awful” and some even chanted CM Punk’s name. Fans threw beach balls around to make it one of the worst Mania main events of all time.
1. Brock Lesnar vs Drew McIntyre (WrestleMania 36)
WrestleMania 36 was a tough time when the entire world suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic had a lot of quarantine restrictions, where WWE was hosted without live audiences. WrestleMania 36 was pre-taped and became the only WrestleMania that was not live to the audience.
Brock Lesnar vs Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship main event the show, which carried huge anticipation despite pandemic restrictions, however ended in a total disappointment. Six minutes squash match in a Mania main event featuring two of the biggest stars was the main reason why it became worse.
