Intercontinental Championship has a very long and rich history in the WWE
Pat Patterson made history in 1979 by becoming the first Intercontinental Champion. The Intercontinental Championship is highly regarded as a step toward becoming a future WWE Champion.
Of course, not every Intercontinental Champion went on to win a World Championship in WWE, but numerous wrestlers benefited from the victory.
Gunther is the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history, having held the title for 666 days. He is also the only champion to hold the championship for a complete calendar year in 2023.
His one Intercontinental Title reign is longer than wrestlers who have held the title several times, which is an incredible accomplishment.
Furthermore, the wrestlers with the most WWE Intercontinental Championship reigns in history have a variety of spectacular, brief, and epic Intercontinental Title campaigns.
But, today we will look at six active WWE wrestlers who have the most IC Title reigns till now.
6. Rey Mysterio – 2
Rey Mysterio held the WWE IC Championship twice in 2009 and 2010, for a total of 129 days. At WrestleMania 25, Mysterio defeated JBL to claim the championship for the first time. This crowned him the 21st Triple Crown champion in WWE history. Mysterio regained the championship after defeating Chris Jericho on Judgment Day in 2009.
5. Finn Balor – 2
Finn Bálor on 17 February at the 2018 Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, defeated Lashley and Rush in a two-on-one handicap match to capture the Intercontinental Championship after Bálor pinned Rush. Later, Lashley recaptured the title with Rush’s help. But at WrestleMania 35 Finn Balor won his championship back as he defeated Lashley and Jinder Mahal in a handicap match.

4. Seth Rollins – 2
From August 19, 2018, to December 16, 2018, Seth Rollins held the WWE IC Championship for 119 days. Rollins is a WWE veteran who has won several championships, including the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Universal Championship, WWE World Championship, United States Championship, and WWE Raw Tag Team Championship.
It was at WrestleMania 34 that Rollins won his first IC title when he defeated Finn Balor & The Miz in a triple-threat match. After that win, he became the twenty-ninth Triple Crown Champion and the eighteenth Grand Slam Champion in WWE history.
3. Kofi Kingston – 4
Kofi Kingston is certainly a future WWE Hall of Famer, having won the most Tag Team Championships in WWE history and having previously been a WWE Champion. However, before his achievements in the New Day, Kingston was a good mid-carder who won the Intercontinental Championship four times.
At Night of Champions 2008, Kingston defeated Chris Jericho to win his first IC Championship. Kingston made history with his fourth Intercontinental Championship reign, defeating The Miz on Main Event, the only time the title changed hands on that event in 2012.

2. Sami Zayn – 4
Sami Zayn performed Mission Impossible at WrestleMania 40 with an incredible performance, ending Gunther’s record-breaking 666-day Intercontinental Title reign to begin his fourth reign as Intercontinental Champion.
Zayn’s first Intercontinental Championship reign in 2020 ended sooner than intended, as he chose to stay at home for a few months during the peak of the COVID-19 epidemic. Zayn’s third Intercontinental Championship reign ended abruptly when he began a rivalry with Johnny Knoxville, and WWE made a wise move not to back themselves into a corner because Sami Zayn and Knoxville did not need to fight for the championship at WrestleMania 38.
1. The Miz – 8
After John Cena ended his WWE Championship reign in May 2011, The Miz regrouped and flirted with the main event scene in several storylines, but he eventually fell down the pecking order. The Awesome One won the Intercontinental Championship eight times, with his first reign beginning at Raw 1000 in July 2012.
Miz’s second and fourth Intercontinental Championship reigns both lasted 24 hours, which was disappointing. However, his fifth Intercontinental Championship reign was his most successful reign. His wife Maryse was at his side as he reinvented the tournament in 2016 with frequent title defenses.
Miz’s eight Intercontinental Championship reigns of 592 days rank third all-time, behind Gunther and two-time champion Pedro Morales. Miz gets credit for his accomplishment as Intercontinental Champion because the Hollywood A-Lister was a terrific champion.
