All matches announced for WWE RAW (May 5, 2025): Penta battles JD McDonagh, Rusev in action & more

The April 28 episode of Raw emanated from Kansas City!

The 04/28 episode of Monday Night Raw emanated live from the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The show continued the build towards the Backlash PLE, which is set for May 10, and will be the first PLE after WrestleMania 41.

Seth Rollins, along with his new alliance with Paul Heyman and Bron Breakker, kicked off the show this week and offered Sami Zayn a way out as he was against the alliance. Zayn refused and received the same fate as Roman Reigns and CM Punk as Rollins and Breakker decimated Zayn in the final moments of the show.

Giulia ambushed Rhea Ripley during her match against Roxanne Perez, who then joined in on the attack. However, WWE Women’s World Champion IYO SKY rushed in to help Ripley and fend off both attackers. The promotion also started a storyline between World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso and Logan Paul.

Furthermore, War Raiders (Erik & Ivar) defeated the Judgment Day (Finn Balor & JD McDonagh) in a tag team match, which saw interferences from Carlito and Penta. NXT Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer also picked up a win against American Made’s Ivy Nile.

Two more matches were added to the Backlash 2025 card as Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria is set to defend the title against Becky Lynch, while Pat McAfee will lock horns against ‘The Ring General’ Gunther following the attack by Gunther last week.

During the show, the promotion also announced matches and segments for the next week’s show, which will serve as the go-home show for Backlash 2025. The May 05 episode of Monday Night Raw will air live from the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

After making his return a crushing the Alpha Academy last week, Rusev is set to battle Alpha Academy’s Otis on the May 05 show, while Penta will battle Judgment Day’s JD McDonagh in a singles match. This match was set up following the two stars interfering in each other’s match recently.
