Some of these stars even went on to win the match
The Royal Rumble PLE is considered one of the WWE’s five biggest events of the year along with Money in the Bank, SummerSlam, Survivor Series & WrestleMania. The PLE was first introduced in 1988 and initially featured a men’s Rumble match.
The Stamford-based promotion for the first time in its history created the same match for the women’s division and was first contested in 2018. The 2018 PLE featured two Rumble matches in both men’s and women’s division which has been the status quo ever since.
Royal Rumble is a professional wrestling match featuring Battle Royal rules, where competitors eliminate others by throwing them over the top rope. Typically, 30 participants take part, with two starting the match and new wrestlers entering every 90 seconds until all 30 are in the ring.
The winner of the match who persists despite the onslaught and survives, in the end, wins the match and gets a title shot against the champion at WrestleMania. While the competitor who enters last usually has a higher probability of winning the match.
However, there have been some exceptions to this rule as time and again wrestlers have proved their resilience and have survived despite entering in the number one position.
Here we take a look at the list of stars who have entered in the number-one spot in the men’s and women’s Rumble matches.
