“The Ring General” Gunther is one of the best-in-class professional wrestlers on the active WWE roster. He has been an impressive wrestler from day 1 in WWE and has been proving his caliber since his NXT UK time. Gunther wrestled in NXT & NXT UK under the name Walter and was the longest reigning NXT UK champion with 870 days reign.

Making his way to the main roster, he became the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time with a monumental reign of 666 days. He also carried an undefeated record in the singles match via pinfall or submission for almost two years. Since Gunther suffered his first pinfall loss on the main roster, here we look at all the WWE Superstars who defeated him in singles matches.

Ilja Dragunov

At NXT TakeOver 36, Ilja Dragunov challenged Walter (Gunther) for the WWE NXT UK Championship. The match went for more than 22 minutes, where Dragunov dethroned Walter by submission through the rear naked choke to end his 870 days NXT UK Championship reign. This is the first loss for Walter in WWE since his debut. This match received a 5.25 star rating, becoming the fourth match in WWE history to exceed 5-star ratings.

Bron Breakker

On the April 5, 2022 episode of NXT, Gunther challenged Bron Breakker for the NXT Championship, where Breakker defeated Gunther to retain the championship after a spear followed by a Gorilla Press Slam. This is the second loss for him in WWE and the last match for him in the NXT brand.

Chad Gable

On the August 21, 2023 episode of Raw, Chad Gable challenged The Ring General for the Intercontinental Championship. During the final moments, Gable sent him outside the ring to the timekeepers area and won the match by count out.

This marks the first defeat for The Ring General in the main roster since his debut. Although Gable won the match, he was not crowned as the champion, as championships don’t change hands by countdown. One week before the match, Gable defeated him in the Beat the Clock challenge, but the challenge was made into a normal match after Gunther failed to defeat Gable.

Sami Zayn

On Night 2 of WrestleMania 40, Sami Zayn challenged the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion for the title. Where The Ring General had the odds on him, and Sami Zayn was the Underdog.

However, Sami Zayn defeated Gunther after a tough match by hitting a Brain Burster over the turnbuckle, followed by two Helluva Kicks. This ended Gunther’s 666 days Intercontinental Championship reign, which is the longest reign for the title so far.

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes won the WWE Men’s Crown Jewel Championship after beating Gunther in Saudi Arabia. The Undisputed WWE Champion defeated his World Heavyweight counterpart in the main event of WWE’s most recent Saudi-based PLE, WWE Crown Jewel 2024.
