“The American Nightmare” ended Roman Reigns’ historic title reign

Cody Rhodes has reached the top of the mountain in WWE. At WrestleMania 40, he defeated Roman Reigns in the main event. The Tribal Chief’s tenure as champion ended after 1316 days, due to The American Nightmare.

However, it took him 18 years to reach the pinnacle of his WWE career. Signing with WWE in 2006, he found it difficult to be a main-event star until leaving the company in 2016.

He returned to WWE six years later, rejuvenated by his new American Nightmare image, and has never looked back since. Wrestling fans are aware of Cody’s struggles over the years to reach the top. As he turns 39, we reveal some lesser-known facts about the reigning WWE Champion.

5. Cody Rhodes is a fan of The Legend of Zelda

Cody Rhodes may have dethroned Roman Reigns, the current WWE Champion, but he is a huge nerd. It’s difficult to determine based on his WWE TV character. The American Nightmare is a die-hard admirer of the game franchise The Legend of Zelda, as seen by his ring gears. He also enjoys comic books, particularly those featuring the X-Men.

4. Cody inducted Dusty Rhodes into the WWE Hall of Fame

Dusty Rhodes, Cody Rhodes‘ father, was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007 for his outstanding professional wrestling career and accomplishments. Receiving the accolade was one of the highlights of Dusty’s wrestling career in WWE.

Dusty was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by his kids, Cody Rhodes and Dustin Rhodes, better known as Goldust, rather than any of his colleagues or friends. Cody hadn’t even made his main roster debut by then.

His most noteworthy role was as Derek Sampson in the iconic television series Arrow. Furthermore, he portrayed Kurt Smoller in Warehouse 13. He is set to star in the film Naked Gun. It’ll be launched in 2025.

2. Cody Rhodes did amateur wrestling in high school

Cody Rhodes was raised in Marietta, Georgia, and attended Lassiter High School. Long before beginning his professional wrestling career, he participated in amateur wrestling in high school.

Dusty Rhodes’ younger son won the amateur wrestling competition at Georgia State in 2003. He won in his junior and senior years, competing in the 189-pound class. During his high school amateur wrestling career, he faced Xavier Woods, a future WWE co-worker.

1. He is the first to hold the WWE Championship in his family

Cody is a second-generation wrestler from the Rhodes family. His elder brother, Goldust, also known as Dustin Rhodes, is sixteen years older and wrestled for WWE in the 1990s and 2000s. He won the Intercontinental Championship, but not the WWE Championship.

On the other side, Dusty Rhodes was never able to win WWE’s top prize. Cody Rhodes’ championship victory at WrestleMania 40 made him the first member of the Rhodes family to win the WWE Championship.
