Top seven best WarGames matches in WWE history

WWE has produced some of the most hard-hitting and exceptional WarGames matches since 2017.
WWE took the origins of the popular stipulation match from its former rival WCW, WarGames, and brought it to prominence in the modern era. Debuting first in their developmental territory, NXT, in 2017, the brainchild of WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes made a huge impact with its two rings and steel cages displaying carnage and jam-packed in-ring action.
Following the success of the War Games matches in NXT, the main roster adopted the concept and presented it as part of their Big Four event, Survivor Series, for the last two years. With War Games matches returning once again this year, here are the Khel Now’s seven best WarGames matches in WWE history:
7. Women’s match- NXT WarGames 2021
The opening bout for the NXT Wargames 2021 event saw the squad of Io Shirai, Kay Lee Ray, Raquel Gonzalez, and Cora Jade battle the trio of Toxic Attraction (Mandy Rose, Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne) and Dakota Kai. Despite being a united front, Mandy Rose’s side failed to score the win as breakout performances by Jade and Shirai led their team to victory.
6. Undisputed Era vs Team McAfee- NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2020
The prolific rivalry between Adam Cole and Pat McAfee went through NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2021, bringing their respective squads to WarGames. Cole had his brothers-in-arms, The Undisputed Era (Kyle O Reilly, Bobby Fish, and Roderick Strong), while Pat McAfee recruited Pete Dunne, Danny Burch, and Oney Lorcan. However, Cole’s long-time faction proved to be superior as they defeated the McAfee team when Fish and O’Reilly landed a double-team move on Lorcan to seal the win.

5. Women’s match- NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2019
The first-ever Women’s WarGames match took place in 2019 at the namesake event, with Rhea Ripley, Candice LeRae, Tegan Nox, and Dakota Kai on one side squaring off against the team of Shayna Baszler, Io Shirai, Bianca Belair, and Kay Lee Ray. The ending of the match came down to team captains Ripley and Baszler, with Mami performing the Riptide on Baszler in two chairs to win the match for her team.
4. Undisputed Era vs Sanity vs Authors of Pain-NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2017
The Undisputed Era’s first time in the WarGames match came against the psychotic faction of Sanity (Eric Young, Killian Dain, and Alexander Wolfe) and The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) and Roderick Strong, who later became a part of Undisputed Era. However, that night, he was on the losing end as the squad of Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, and Bobby Fish outlasted both teams to score the win.
3. Women’s match: Survivor Series 2023
The WarGames match at WWE Survivor Series 2023 on the women’s side featured Bianca Belair, Charlotte Flair, Shotzi, and the returning Becky Lynch against the squad of Damage CTRL (Bayley, Iyo Sky, Asuka, and Kairi Sane). A match for the ages, with the women displaying their brutality and exceptional in-ring acumen, saw Bayley being subjected to a double team attack in the end, with Becky Lynch delivering a Manhandle Slam from the second rope through a table to her to win the match for her squad.

2. The Bloodline vs Brawling Brutes: Survivor Series 2022
One of the most prolific matches in WWE WarGames history featured The Bloodline (Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Solo Sikoa, and Sami Zayn) battling The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Butch, and Ridge Holland), and their allies Drew McIntyre, and Kevin Owens. Following a hard-fought battle between both sides, the final moments proved to be Sami Zayn cementing his allegiance to The Bloodline, taking down his best friend, Kevin Owens, to seal the win for his team.
1. Men’s match: Survivor Series 2023
The main event of WWE Survivor Series 2023 featured the team of Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and Randy Orton taking on The Judgment Day (Damian Priest, Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio, and JD McDonagh) and Drew McIntyre. While the majority of the match was outnumbered by Cody’s side, Randy Orton made his return to WWE after 18 months towards the end.
The Viper’s inclusion turned the tables for his squad, and Cody hit Priest with a Cross Rhodes to seal the victory. CM Punk made his incredible WWE comeback after nearly a decade at the end of this match.
