“The American Nightmare” is the current Undisputed WWE Champion
Cody Rhodes has ascended to the top of the WWE mountain ever since he triumphed over Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion. Rhodes is now set to defend his title at WWE’s upcoming PLE, SummerSlam, in two weeks against the new Tribal Chief, Solo Sikoa.
With Rhodes set for a tough challenge at this year’s SummerSlam, let us take a look at the record of Cody Rhodes at the Biggest Party of the Summer:
SummerSlam 2009
Cody Rhodes made his debut at WWE SummerSlam in its 2008 edition as part of a huge tag team match. Representing Randy Orton’s Legacy faction alongside his partner, Ted DiBiase, they faced the iconic duo of Triple H and Shawn Michaels, D-Generation X. The match was an enthralling sight, but did not see Rhodes’ team walk away with the win.
SummerSlam 2013
Cody Rhodes made his second appearance four years after his first outing at SummerSlam at the 2013 edition. The American Nightmare was engaged in a heated rivalry with his former friend turned foe, Damian Sandow, who betrayed him to clinch the Money in the Bank contract a few months prior.
However, Rhodes brought the anger and fight to Sandow, picking up his first singles win at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
SummerSlam 2015
One of the most memorable matches that Cody Rhodes took place at WWE SummerSlam was its 2015 edition. At the time, he was portraying his infamous gimmick, Stardust, and was involved in a rivalry with the star of the Green Arrow, Stephen Amell.
The match was a tag team bout, with Stephen teaming up with the Red Arrow, Neville, while Stardust teamed up with Wade Barrett, with Rhodes’ team ending up in the losing column.
SummerSlam 2023
WWE SummerSlam 2023 saw the return of Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam during his second coming to WWE. The American Nightmare was slated to battle The Beast, Brock Lesnar, in the last match of their trilogy.
With both men having a victory over each other, the rubber match saw Rhodes slay The Beast and clinch the win. Not only that, Cody Rhodes also earned Lesnar’s respect at the end of the bout, giving him a huge endorsement en route to his journey to Finish The Story.
SummerSlam 2024
WWE SummerSlam 2023 saw Rhodes defend the Undisputed title against Solo Sikoa in a Bloodline rules match. This was Rhodes’ fifth title defense, in a title reign which lasted 378 days.
SummerSlam 2025
On Night 2 of the first-ever two-night SummerSlam, Rhodes competed in a street fight against John Cena in a rematch from WrestleMania 41, where Cena pinned Rhodes to win the Undisputed WWE title. However, in the rematch, Rhodes triumphed, pinning Cena to recapture the WWE Championship.
