‘The American Nightmare’ returned to action at the WWE Jacksonville Holiday Tour
The Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes made his return last night at the WWE Jacksonville Holiday Tour. The American Nightmare has been out of action since December 15 due to injury.
The American Nightmare defended his title against Kevin Owens at SNME on December 15 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Rhodes emerged victorious in the main event, but Owens launched a brutal assault on him afterward, delivering a devastating package piledriver. The champion was stretchered out of the arena following the vicious attack.
After the assault, The Prizefighter took the iconic Winged Eagle title with him. The belt was being temporarily used by Cody for one night only, on loan from WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H.
In Rhodes’ absence, Owens crowned himself the “True WWE Champion” and promised to defend the title during WWE’s annual holiday tour.
Cody Rhodes dodges another attack from Kevin Owens
The American Nightmare made his return wearing a neckbrace at the Jacksonville live event to defend his title against Kevin Owens. The two former friends locked horns in a steel cage match in the main event of the show at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.
Rhodes successfully defended his title in the main event against Owens. After the match, Owens once again tried to assault the champion as he went for the package piledriver. However, the champion was quick to escape and retaliate with Cross Roads taking out the challenger.
After quickly taking care of the challenger, Rhodes grabbed the mic and addressed the enthusiastic Jacksonville crowd. In a surprise announcement, he revealed that he’ll be appearing on Friday Night SmackDown tonight.
The 12/27 episode of WWE SmackDown will be telecasted live from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, U.S.A. This is the final show of the Blue brand this year as 2024 comes to an end.
