Dominik Mysterio gets star treatment in AAA, so why not WWE?

Dominik Mysterio’s character continues to fizzle out.

‘Dirty Dom’ Dominik Mysterio, since his WWE debut, has slowly proved himself to be one of the most reliable superstars of his generation who can take charge and headline PLEs. Despite playing a heel, Dirty Dom received major reactions from the crowd.

He even managed to defeat John Cena in his final PLE match, but from beating one of the G.O.A.Ts in his final PLE to now battling Danhausen in a Human Monies on a Pole match, the Judgment Day member has voiced frustration with his creative direction.

The lack of direction becomes more frustrating when we compare it to his own ongoing run in WWE’s sister promotion AAA. There is a noticeable difference between how important Dominik feels in WWE and how important he has been presented in AAA.

AAA Mega Campeón or just another name on the roster?

Dominik Mysterio currently stands as the top star of Lucha Libre AAA and is the reigning AAA Mega Champion. Dirty Dom is set to defend the World title against El Grande Americano at Triplemania 34 next month.

The PLE will emanate over two nights. Night 1 will take place on September 11 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada, U.S., while Night 2 will take place on September 13 at the Arena CDMX in Azcapotzalco, Mexico City, Mexico.

Dirty Dom is heavily featured in the promotional material. On the other hand, while he was part of the SummerSlam PLE, the match had no major consequence storyline-wise. Instead of fighting for a title or a major feud, he battled Danhausen in the aforementioned Human Monies on a Pole match.

WWE doesn’t need to just copy Dirty Dom’s character in AAA and put the World title on him. In contrast, Dominik doesn’t even need to win every match or hold a world championship indefinitely. He simply needs to feel like someone whose actions can significantly affect WWE’s biggest storylines.

WWE has leaned too heavily into comedy

Dirty Dom already has solid timing and reactions as a heel and can hang with some of the best in comedic segments. In fact, his ability to play an obnoxious, cowardly heel is one of the reasons he has become so entertaining.

The problem right now is that comedy has become his entire presentation. WWE has enough to book Dominik in a singles feud and even has done so before on the main roster.

However, Dirty Dom continues to revolve around Judgment Day members and partaking in Liv Morgan or other stablemates’ matches and feuds. This makes him look like a supportive character, and the constant losses label him as a jobber, not the next main eventer, which WWE should be looking for, as most of its current top names have crossed 40 and are pushing 50.

The creative team can still turn it around, booking Dirty Dom in major feuds and matches to rebuild his momentum as the next-gen stars such as Dirty, Oba Femi, Bron Breakker, and Stephanie Vaquer, among others, prepare to take charge of WWE.
