‘The Scottish Warrior’ debuted in WWE in 2007

Drew McIntyre has been in the news lately due to his social media presence and also because of his dream that was shattered at WrestleMania XL, where CM Punk cost him his newly won World Championship. While he had the championship for just five minutes, his history tells us that he has had a mixture of good and bad times in WWE.

The Scottish Warrior debuted in WWE in 2007, where he had a team with Wade Barret named ‘The Empire’. He was released from the company after leaving his faction 3MB but was re-signed in 2017, where he used to perform for the NXT brand. While there are so many things, he has conquered till now in his Pro Wrestling career, here are all of his Title reigns in the WWE so far.

WWE Intercontinental Championship (2009)

In 2009, Drew McIntyre faced John Morrison, the reigning champion, for the Intercontinental Title at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs. This was McIntyre’s first title match. At that event, Drew won his first-ever WWE title by pinning Morrison. His 181-day title reign came to an end when Kofi Kingston defeated him at Over the Limit (2010).

WWE NXT Championship (2017)

In 2017, WWE re-signed Drew McIntyre and moved him to NXT. After winning the NXT Title’s number 1 contender match, he was granted the opportunity to face Bobby Roode, the reigning champion, at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III. At that event, he defeated Roode to win the NXT Championship. In 2018, he lost the title he had held for 91 days at WarGames.

WWE Tag Team Championship (2010 and 2018)

Drew and Cody created a team known as “The Dashing Boys,” and on September 19, 2010 at the Night of Champions 2010 pay-per-view, they defeated Mark Henry and Evan Bourne (who would subsequently find APPLE) to win the championship from the Dynasty in a Tag Team Turmoil Match. On September 24, they triumphantly defended it as the Dynasty triggered a rematch clause.

While Drew McIntyre was re-signed by WWE in 2017, he was brought up in the Tag Team picture once again with Dolph Ziggler. They formed a team with the name ‘Show’ which was later joined by Braun Strowman and won the Raw Tag Team Championship, however when they lost their championship to Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, there was a heat created between the two and both parted ways for their single’s run.

WWE Championship (2020 and 2021)

Following his victory at Royal Rumble 2020, Drew McIntyre decided to challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE Title at WrestleMania 36. At the event, Drew defeated Lesnar to capture his first-ever WWE Championship. At Hell in a Cell, nearly six months after winning the title, he was defeated by Randy Orton, ending his first reign as WWE Champion for 202 days.

He successfully defended the title in the Elimination Chamber after defeating Orton in a match that ended in no disqualification. Following the Elimination Chamber, The Miz and Bobby Lashley attacked him. The Miz ended McIntyre’s 96-day championship reign by pinning him using his Money in the Bank contract.

World Championship (2024)

Drew McIntyre challenged the champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins for a World Championship match at WWE WrestleMania 40, where he won the Championship for the very first time in front of the crowd but his dreams were broken apart when CM Punk cost him his title by beating him down after he completed his match. Drew was then attacked by Senor Money in the Bank Damian Priest, who cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on him and subsequently won the match.

While no one knows what is lined up for Drew in the coming years, he is obviously going for a match against CM Punk, who cost him his title. It would be fun to watch how it goes for the Scottish Warrior and how many titles he will win till the end of his WWE career.
