The 16-time world champion is one of the greatest pro-wrestlers of all time

John Cena is one of the most divisive performers in WWE history. Cena has been with WWE for nearly two decades, and he has split opinion throughout the wrestling industry. However, there is no questioning Cena’s passion for wrestling, which is why he was at the top of his game for so long in WWE. Cena participates on an irregular basis, most notably as the curtain-raiser at WrestleMania 39, demonstrating how well-known he is.

Many wrestlers aspire to be as successful as Cena has been in his WWE career. Cena may never be a Grand Slam Champion since he has never won the Intercontinental Championship, but he will not be concerned. Nonetheless, Cena’s exploits have been nothing short of astounding, demonstrating his brilliance.

Here are the top 10 greatest WWE achievements of John Cena:

10. Two-Time Wrestling Observer Newsletter Wrestler Of The Year

John Cena may not be the most technically proficient in-ring performer, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to work within the squared circle. John Cena’s 2007 was one of the finest years in WWE history; if he hadn’t had a pectoral muscle injury, he would have most certainly held the WWE Championship for the whole calendar year.

Three years later, in 2010, Cena had another spectacular year, winning the WWE Championship twice in an Elimination Chamber match and defeating Batista for the title at WrestleMania 26. Furthermore, wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer named Cena the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Wrestler of the Year in both 2007 and 2010.

9. Hat-trick WrestleMania main eventer

John Cena, one of WWE’s top performers, had a consistent presence in the main event at WrestleMania. Cena has headlined WrestleMania five times in his WWE career, with Triple H, Hulk Hogan, and Roman Reigns competing in more than him.

Cena defeated Triple H and Shawn Michaels in his first two WrestleMania main bouts, and he headlined a hat-trick, losing to The Miz in 2011 and The Rock in 2012. However, Cena defied the curse by exacting retribution on Rock one year later, at WrestleMania 29, when they closed out the show and he recaptured the WWE Championship.

8. Tag Team Champion

Cena won the World Tag Team Championship twice: once with Shawn Michaels in January 2007, when they contested for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 23, and again a year later with Batista. Cena has held the WWE Tag Team Championship twice, once for 24 hours with his Nexus stablemate David Otunga and once with his opponent The Miz. However, Cena and Miz’s tenure as WWE Tag Team Champions was short-lived, as they created an unwelcome history by holding the championship for only nine minutes.

7. A Record Seven Consecutive World Title Matches At WrestleMania

John Cena has been in the main event scene for a decade in WWE, so it’s no surprise that he’s appeared in multiple World Championship battles at WrestleMania. Cena won his first WWE Championship by defeating JBL at WrestleMania 21, and he then defended it twice more, against Triple H and Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 22 and 23, respectively.

His fourth consecutive World Title bout at WrestleMania ended in his first loss, as Randy Orton retained the WWE Championship in a triple threat match including Triple H. Cena won gold at WrestleMania 25 and 26, but he was unable to defeat The Miz for the WWE Championship in a record seventh consecutive World Title contest at WrestleMania 27.

6. PWI 500 #1

Without a doubt, John Cena was one of the most dominant wrestlers in the mid-2000s for the following decade, and it’s no wonder that he led the Pro Wrestling Illustrated Top 500 lists three times: in 2006, 2007, and 2013. Cena won the WWE Championship twice in 2006, both at Edge’s cost and defeated Triple H in his first WrestleMania main event to retain the title.

2007 was undoubtedly Cena’s strongest year as a WWE wrestler, as he held the WWE Championship until October before suffering an injury. In 2013, Cena returned to his magnificent best, winning the Royal Rumble match, the WWE Championship from The Rock at WrestleMania 29, and becoming the penultimate World Heavyweight Champion.

5. United States Champion

While John Cena has won multiple World Championships in his WWE career, his first title was the WWE United States Championship. In the WrestleMania 20 curtain-raiser, Cena defeated Big Show to win his first United States title.

Cena went on to hold the United States Championship five times, the most in WWE history. Cena had an excellent job as US Champion, winning the US Open Challenge in 2015 before losing the championship to Seth Rollins at SummerSlam, his last time holding the prized title.

4. 380-Day WWE Title Reign

John Cena held the WWE Championship a record 13 times in his career, but his third reign was definitely his finest. At Unforgiven 2006, Cena defeated Edge in a TLC match to begin his third WWE Championship reign.

Cena was unstoppable throughout his 380-day WWE Championship reign. Umaga, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, Edge, The Great Khali, and King Booker were among the opponents he defeated. Cena’s WWE Championship reign was the longest in 20 years, surpassing Hulk Hogan’s four-year reign, however it terminated due to a pectoral injury.

3. Money In The Bank Winner

The five-man Money in the Bank ladder match in 2012 was one of the most lackluster in the competition’s history. John Cena, Big Show, Chris Jericho, Kane, and The Miz competed for the WWE Championship Money in the Bank briefcase.

Cena was an obvious winner, and he didn’t need to win the Money in the Bank ladder match to reclaim the championship. Cena made undesired history again as he became the first man to fail to convert a Money in the Bank triumph into gold, defeating CM Punk in a WWE Championship bout via disqualification.

2. Two-Time Royal Rumble Match Winner

Winning a Royal Rumble match is one of the greatest feats in WWE history, since it earns you a spot in the main event of WrestleMania in a world championship contest. John Cena is one of only a few wrestlers who have won the Royal Rumble twice, in 2008 and 2013.

Cena’s victory in 2008 was shocking since he recovered from a pectoral injury ahead of schedule as the 30th entrant. Although his victory in 2013 was anticipated, as he was set to defeat Rock for the WWE Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 29.

1. 16-Time WWE World Champion

No one in WWE history has won more World Championships than John Cena. Cena has won 16 World Championships, including 13 WWE Championship reigns and three World Heavyweight Championship reigns.

Cena ended Ric Flair’s 16 World Championship reigns in the 2017 Royal Rumble by defeating AJ Styles for the WWE Championship. It remains to be seen whether Cena will stand alone with a record 17 World Championships in his cabinet. Whether or whether Cena breaks the record, he will be known for his World Championship wins.
