John Cena holds the highest number of World Championships in WWE
John Cena is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, he has been in WWE for 22 years. Cena is one of the most highly successful WWE Superstars in the history of the company. He held a total of 25 championships, in which 16 of them are world championships, equalling the record of Ric Flair for the most world title wins in WWE. Here we take a look at John Cena’s all 16 world title reigns in WWE.
John Cena’s WWE Championship reigns
At WrestleMania 21, John Cena defeated John Bradshaw Layfield to become the WWE Champion for the very first time. Cena held the title for 280 days and lost the title to Edge, who cashed in his Money in the Bank contract at WWE New Year’s Revolution 2006.
At the 2006 Royal Rumble pay-per-view, Cena challenged Edge for a rematch and won the WWE Championship back to start his second reign. Cena held the title for 133 days and lost the title to Rob Van Dam. who cashed in his Money in the Bank contract in an Extreme Rules match at ECW One Night Stand 2006 pay-per-view.
At the 2006 Unforgiven pay-per-view, Cena challenged Edge for the WWE Championship in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs match, where if Cena loses, he would have left the Raw brand. However, Cena won the match and became the WWE Champion for the third time. He held the title for 380 days and vacated his title due to an injury in the pectoral tendon.
At the 2009 Breaking Point pay-per-view, Cena challenged Randy Orton in an ‘I quit’ match, where if anyone had interfered on behalf of Orton, the title would have been forfeited. Cena won the match forcing Orton to say ‘I quit’ and won the WWE Championship for the fourth time. Cena’s fourth title reign didn’t last longer, as Orton took the title from him after 20 days at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view-in-a Hell in a Cell match.
At the 2009 Bragging Rights pay-per-view, Cena took revenge on Orton by taking the title back from Orton in a 60-minute Anything Goes Iron Man Match, by scoring 6-5 falls. Cena ended Orton’s fifth reign in 20 days and began his fifth reign. Cena held the title for 49 days and lost the title to Sheamus at the 2009 TLC pay-per-view in a Tables match.
At the 2010 Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, Cena participated in the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship, where Cena made Triple H tap out to the STF to become the WWE Championship for the sixth time. However, Cena lost the title to Batista immediately in an impromptu title match, as per the instructions by Vince McMahon.
At WrestleMania XXVI, Cena defeated Batista in a singles match and became the WWE Champion for the seventh time. Cena held the title for 84 days and lost the title to Sheamus, in a fatal 4-way match including Edge & Randy Orton.
At the 2011 Extreme Rule pay-per-view, The Miz defended his WWE Championship on the line against John Cena & John Morrison in a Triple Threat Steel Cage Match and won the title by pinning The Miz to start his eighth WWE Championship reign. Cena held the title for 77 days and lost the title to CM Punk at the 2011 Money in the Bank pay-per-view.
On the July 25, 2011, episode of Raw, John Cena claimed his WWE Championship match against the newly crowned Rey Mysterio and won the match the same night to start his ninth WWE Championship reign. CM Punk also claimed himself as the WWE Champion, and the match was held to identify who is the undisputed champion at SummerSlam 2011, where Cena lost the title to end his ninth reign in 20 days.

At the 2011 Night of Champions pay-per-view, John Cena challenged Alberto Del Rio for the WWE Championship and won the title to start his tenth reign. However, Cena lost the title back to Del Rio in two weeks at Hell in a Cell 2011 in a Hell in a Cell match involving CM Punk.
At WrestleMania 29, John Cena used his Royal Rumble contract against The Rock for the WWE Championship, where Cena defeated the Rock to kick-start his eleventh WWE Championship reign. Cena held the title for 133 days and lost the title to Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam 2013.
At the 2014 Money in the Bank pay-per-view, Cena competed in an eight-man ladder match for the vacant WWE Championship and won the title for the twelfth time. Cena held the title for 49 days and lost to Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2014.
At the 2017 Royal Rumble pay-per-view, Cena challenged AJ Styles and won the WWE Championship for the thirteenth time. Cena held the title for two weeks and lost the title to Bray Wyatt in the Elimination Chamber match at Elimination Chamber 2014.
John Cena’s World Heavyweight Championship reigns
At the 2008 Survivor Series pay-per-view, John Cena challenged Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship and won the title for the very first time. Cena held the title for 84 days and lost the title to Edge in an Elimination Chamber match at No Way Out 2009.
John Cena called for a rematch against Edge at WrestleMania 25, for the World Heavyweight Championship involving Big Show in a Triple Threat Match. Cena won the match by pinning Big Show and won the World Heavyweight Championship for the second time. He held the title for 21 days and lost it back to Edge at 2009 Backlash in a Last Man Standing match.
At the 2013 Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, John Cena challenged Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship and won the title to begin his third reign. Cena held the title for 49 days and lost the title to Randy Orton at TLC in a Championship Unification Tables Ladders Chairs match.
