Chelsea Green defied the odds at SummerSlam.
Night 2 of SummerSlam featured a ladder match where the Interim WWE Women’s title was up for grabs. The match was made in the absence of reigning WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, who has been out of action since Clash in Italy due to a knee injury.
Despite being an underdog and being on the back foot, Chelsea Green capitalized on the opportunity when every other competitor was down and out ringside. She climbed the ladder and grabbed the title to become the Interim WWE Women’s Champion.
The win marked her first World title reign in WWE, and she even dedicated the win to WWE Producer Michael Hayes on the post-show. The comment was a dig at Hayes, who claimed on WWE Unreal that Green wasn’t good enough to be a main event player and was a supporting act for the company’s big stars.
With that win, Green captured her first World title in WWE, but is she a Triple Crown Champion in the promotion, or does she still have titles left to win to achieve that milestone?
Is Chelsea Green a Triple Crown Champion in WWE?
In order to become a Triple Crown Champion in the promotion, a wrestler has to win a World title, a secondary singles title, and the tag team titles.
However, this only applies to male Triple Crown Champions, as a women’s Triple Crown was formed on May 22, 2019, which included the WWE Women’s Championship, Women’s World Championship, and WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
With this rule, Green isn’t a Triple Crown Champion in WWE as she has only won the Women’s title and the Tag Team titles, not the Women’s World title. On the other hand, the initial rules for women’s titles were introduced when there were no mid-card titles.
This changed in late 2024, when WWE introduced the Women’s Intercontinental title for the Raw brand and the Women’s United States title for the SmackDown brand. Notably, Green is the inaugural Women’s United States Champion.
There is no clarity on whether there is any update to the criteria, but with a mid-card title, there should be an update, and Chelsea Green should be officially recognized as a Triple Crown Champion in WWE.
