The American Nightmare suffered an orbital injury at WrestleMania.
‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes defeated Randy Orton in the main event of Night of WrestleMania 42 to retain the Undisputed title. However, Orton launched a vicious assault after the match, delivering a punt kick and leaving the Champion in a pool of his own blood.
During the Night 2 Countdown show, Jackie Redmond revealed that Rhodes has not been medically cleared because of an orbital injury. Meanwhile, PWInsider reported that orbital injury was caused by a punch from Orton just moments before he also hit referee Charles Robinson with an RKO.
Additionally, Dave Metlzer on Wrestling Observer Radio reported that Rhodes is in concussion protocol, which means he is not cleared for the in-ring action. However, he is not believed to have suffered a broken orbital bone.
Despite the injury, Rhodes continued making appearances, even making an appearance on Raw after WrestleMania and engaging in a segment with CM Punk, where a future showdown was teased.

Yes, Cody Rhodes is medically cleared to compete. During the recent May 1 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, the American Nightmare kicked off the show, revealing that he has been medically cleared to compete.
Rhodes revealed that he met with WWE’s medical team and with General Manager Nick Aldis before the show to find out that he had been medically cleared.
The Undisputed Champion even made his in-ring return, competing in a match against the debutant Ricky Saints, who confronted him right after the aforementioned announcement.

While Rhodes managed to defeat the former NXT Champion, Ricky Saints, in a non-title match, he was then ambushed by ‘The Ring General’ Gunther, who locked him in the sleeper hold.
The Ring General released the hold momentarily only to lock it again, making sure the Champion doesn’t gain consciousness. After the attack, he is now set to appear on SmackDown next week, where he will likely explain his actions.
