John Cena will hang up his wrestling boots at the end of 2025!

John Cena’s farewell run is inching toward its dramatic conclusion. The 17-time WWE world champion has just a handful of dates remaining on his retirement tour before officially stepping away from the ring in December.

The tour, which kicked off during the Raw Netflix debut in January, is set to conclude in Washington, D.C., on December 13. Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., will host Saturday Night’s Main Event in December, marking the venue for the historic final match of Cena‘s legendary career.

Cena recently battled one of his greatest rivals in AJ Styles at the 2025 edition of Crown Jewel. The two veterans delivered an amazing match, which featured multiple homages to some of the biggest names in pro wrestling who have played a part in their highly decorated careers.

During the retirement tour, fans saw John Cena turn heel for the first time in his illustrious career. However, the heel turn was very poorly handled by WWE, as one of the main reasons for Cena turning heel, The Rock suddenly disappeared from television, leaving Cena to justify the heel turn.

The absence made things more complicated as the weak heel turn irked fans who wanted to cheer the 17-time World Champion in his final run. WWE also booked Cena in matches against stars like Logan Paul and a bizarre match with Brock Lesnar, which led nowhere.

Instead, fans had hoped to see Cena face some of his greatest rivals during his final run. WWE claimed that Cena had a say in choosing his opponents and that Lesnar was his pick, but Cena publicly denying those claims only added to the controversy.

However, it seems things are even more tense backstage than fans might realize. According to Vince Russo, the fallout backstage is even more severe, as the former WWE writer, during his Writing with Russo show, claimed that Cena is unhappy with how WWE has booked his retirement year. Russo also mentioned that he’s heard Cena’s camp has been in talks with AEW.

“I’m hearing rumors that John Cena is very unhappy, He doesnot like the way the retirement thing [tour] has gone down. It is not to his liking, he is not satisfied with it,

And I heard [that] there has actually been contact between a John Cena camp and a AEW camp.” Russo stated during the show.

Cena is reportedly set to battle Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental title at the upcoming Survivor Series 2025. Cena is also set to appear on the November 10 and 17 episodes of Monday Night Raw, leading up to the PLE.
