In the main event of the August 29 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Sami Zayn defied the odds and pinned Solo Sikoa to capture the United States title for the first time. The win has kicked off his first-ever US title reign in the company.

The August 29 episode of SmackDown, which aired live from LDLC Arena in Lyon, France, served as the go-home show for Clash in Paris. Zayn and Solo battled for the US title in the main event of the show.

Sikoa’s MFTs (Talla Tonga, JC Mateo & Tonga Loa) were present ringside during the match and caused interference, aiding Solo. However, the arrival of Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu toppled the numbers game, helping Zayn hit two back-to-back Helluva kicks to pin Solo and win the title.

No, Sami Zayn is not a Grand Slam Champion in WWE. The fan favorite star has captured the Intercontinental, both the World and WWE Tag Team titles alongside Kevin Owens, and now the United States title.

However, he has not yet captured the World title in the WWE, and in order to become a Grand Slam Champion in the promotion, a WWE superstar has to win all four of the titles.

Zayn would have to either capture the WWE title held currently by Cody Rhodes or the World Heavyweight title currently held by Seth Rollins in order to achieve this milestone.

Zayn is a four-time Intercontinental Champion and held both the WWE Tag Team titles and the World Tag Team titles alongside Kevin Owens once. He is also a one-time NXT Champion, and with his recent win, a one-time United States Champion.
