The Genius of the Sky continues to shine in WWE
On the March 3 episode of Monday Night Raw, the Stamford-based promotion announced three title clashes, one of which was for the Women’s World Championship between the champion Rhea Ripley and challenger Iyo Sky.
The clash between the two stars took center stage in the main event of the show, which aired from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. 2025 women’s Elimination Chamber winner Bianca Belair was ringside, closely watching the action.
Ripley and Sky put on an amazing match that captivated the fans in the KeyBank Center, Ripley showcased her strength while Sky showcased her quickness and agility to counter the champion. After near falls and multiple pin attempts, Ripley countered one of Sky’s crossbody ringside with a slam face first on the commentary desk.
While Ripley stepped back in the ring at count four, Sky was struggling as the official continued the countout, Belair tried to rally Iyo, and Sky barely beat the count, re-entering the ring at the nine-count. This irked Ripley who confronted Belair and started arguing with her. The champion stepped in the ring and looked for the finish from the top rope.
However, countered with a hurricanrana, followed by a moonsault from the top rope and went for the cover. Iyo Sky defeated Rhea Ripley ending her second title reign at 56 days to become the new Women’s World Champion.
Iyo Sky is now officially a WWE Grand Slam Champion
With the win against Ripley, Sky has now become a WWE Grand Slam Champion and joined the illustrious list of a handful of stars that have achieved the feat. Sky joined the list of seven women who have won all the four titles, including the Women’s World title, the WWE Women’s title, the Women’s Tag Team title and the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles.
As of now, seven different women have won individual Grand Slam titles. Rhea Ripley achieved the Grand Slam in the shortest time, accomplishing it in just 1,200 days between December 2019 and April 2023. On the other hand, Becky Lynch took the longest, completing the Grand Slam in 2,257 days from September 2016 to September 2023.
Furthermore, Sky is the only star in the women’s division to get a Grand Slam in Japan and the United States. She first captured the NXT Women’s title as Lo Shirai after defeating Charlotte Flair (c) and Rhea Ripley in a triple threat match on June 7, 2020.
Sky then bagged the Women’s Tag Team titles along with her Damage CTRL stablemate Dakota Kai after defeating the team of Aliyah & Raquel Rodriguez on September 12, 2022. Sky’s third title in her WWE career came on August 5, 2023 when she defeated Bianca Belair to become the WWE Women’s Champion.
