John Cena will return this Saturday in Tampa.

WWE is gearing up to deliver the 2026 edition of Backlash from the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida, on May 9. After hosting WrestleMania 42, 17-time WWE World Champion John Cena is set to return at the PLE, as his appearance has been confirmed.

On the other hand, among the matches announced for the show is a tag team match, which was announced last week on SmackDown after an attack by the Miz and Kit Wilson on Danhausen. However, the match will only take place if Danhausen is able to find a tag partner.

As usual, this has led to massive speculations among WWE fans who have started theorizing possible stars with whom Danhausen can team up, and the recent announcement of Cena’s return has led to speculations of Cena teaming up with Danhausen.

Cena shared an in-ring segment with the fan favorite star during WrestleMania 42, and notably, The Miz and Wilson were also part of the segment, where Danhausen, along with mini Danhausens, took down both Wilson and Miz.

The two massive fan-favorite stars teaming up will be a pretty iconic moment, not just for fans but also for WWE, which always looks for viral social media moments. So what’s the reality? Is Danhausen teaming up with Cena?

No, John Cena will not team with Danhausen to take on Miz and Kit Wilson at Backlash 2026. Cena has explicitly stated that he will not return for in-ring competition once he retires. Cena retired after his loss to Gunther at the December 2025 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Cena, in his tweet, has even hinted that his appearance will likely have something to do with Club WWE. While John Cena could still appear in segments with Danhausen, he is unlikely to return to in-ring competition, especially as it has only been five months since his retirement.

Other possible fan-favorite candidates who could team up with Danhausen also include former World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, who played a major part in bringing Danhausen to WWE, but is also a close friend of the very nice, very evil star.

Fans will now have to wait to find out who Danahusen teams up with to take down the Miz and Kit Wilson this Saturday in Tampa, Florida.
