R-Truth’s injury ended the match abruptly.
Following a loss in the AAA tag team championship, a series of events that started with a betrayal sowed the seeds of a feud between R-Truth and Damian Priest. The long-awaited showdown took place on the October 16 episode of WWE SmackDown.
But it ended in concerning circumstances after the veteran appeared to suffer an injury during the match. Their match was expected to deliver another chapter in the bitter feud, but an abrupt stoppage shifted attention from the rivalry to Truth’s condition.

The incident occurred when Truth attempted a missile dropkick from the top rope during his match against Priest. After landing, he remained on the canvas rather than immediately continuing the contest. The referee checked on him before calling for the match to be stopped, with Priest awarded the victory via referee stoppage.
The latest available update on R-Truth is encouraging, although WWE has not officially confirmed the nature or severity of his injury.
As reported by a journalist Bryan Alvarez, it looked like Truth was doing well after the incident. According to Alvarez, the veteran was supposed to undergo an evaluation in the next coming week. No diagnosis or recovery period has been provided yet.
It looked like Truth was conscious and was able to move after the fall, but such information doesn’t necessarily mean that he was not seriously injured. The early conclusion of the fight became alarming as the ending of the fight didn’t seem to match what was originally intended.
This situation reminded everyone of the injury episode that Truth had back in November 2022, when his quadriceps were torn in a match against Grayson Waller on NXT. This injury made him stay away from wrestling for more than a year. Yet, it remains unclear if the latest incident is associated with the same issue.
How could R-Truth’s injury affect his ongoing WWE storyline?
R-Truth is unfortunately injured at the worst possible time when his rivalry against Damian Priest becomes important. It was Priest’s betrayal in September that turned their partnership into a rivalry and gave Truth a good reason not to play his funny character and to fight back at his former partner.
The October 16th bout was meant to move the story forward but instead of finishing on top, Priest won the match but then Fraxiom (Axiom and Nathan Frazer) stopped a potential attack of Priest after the bout. That unexpected intervention has prevented WWE from moving forward with the rivalry storyline.
If Truth will get cleared by the doctor in a few days, then WWE can continue developing the program either with a single match where Truth will be looking for some revenge or using Priest’s actions to increase the rivalry.
Otherwise, if Truth needs some time to recover, then either WWE will need to put the rivalry on ice for a while or to continue the rivalry via backstage interviews. Priest can continue attacking others but referring to his former partner in the process.
For now, these remain possibilities rather than confirmed creative plans. Truth’s health must take priority, and WWE’s next steps will depend on the results of his medical evaluation.
