The 17-time World Champion is set to retire in two weeks.

Following his appearance at the 2025 edition of WWE Survivor Series, John Cena is now set to compete in his final WWE retirement match. Cena defended the Intercontinental title against Dominik Mysterio in a rematch in what was his final PLE appearance.

However, due to multiple interferences from the Judgment Day and a returning Liv Morgan, Mysterio was able to pin Cena to regain the title, handing Cena defeat in his final PLE appearances.

Cena’s final match is set to take place at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on the December 13 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event. A tournament is currently underway to decide his final opponent.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, ‘The Ring General’ Gunther has been planned from the beginning to be Cena’s final opponent.

Gunther is currently set to face Solo Sikoa in the semi-finals of the tournament to decide Cena’s final opponent. The match is set for tonight’s Survivor Series fallout show of Monday Night Raw.

The report also points out a major change caused by Jacob Fatu’s injury, which canceled his planned feud with Drew McIntyre. Consequently, McIntyre’s match against Cody Rhodes was moved from Survivor Series to the November edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event, allowing both men to take part in WarGames.

Notably, the team of Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre, and Brock Lesnar defeated the babyface team of CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, The Usos, and Roman Reigns at the 2025 edition last Saturday.

Additionally, the report notes that Penta sustained an injury during his tournament match against Solo Sikoa, although Sikoa was always scheduled to win.

Penta attempted a hurricanrana off the barricade and landed awkwardly on his shoulder during his quarter-final clash against Sikoa.

“I’m actually co-hosting with Joe Tessitore. I’m going to have to reign those emotions in a little bit.” McMahon said.
