Many top names were suddenly released as part of recent cuts.
WWE, in recent times, has made significant talent cuts post WrestleMania season, and the same infamous tradition continued this year, as on Friday, a plethora of talents were released by the promotion. A total of 24 stars have been confirmed to be part of this recent layoff.
Multiple top names in WWE, including Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, the entire Wyatt Sicks faction, Alba Fyre, Apollo Crews, Santos Escobar, Zoey Stark, Motor City Machine Guns, and Kairi Sane, were all part of the recent roster cuts.
The majority of these names were either featured on regular programming, but despite this, they were released, creating confusion among fans. Notably, Cory Hays of Bodyslam reported that superstars who were released recently were informed of their departures directly by TKO. Let us now take a look at the three possible reasons why the stars were released after Mania.
3. Push for new stars and NXT call-ups

The fallout from WrestleMania 42 has seen multiple names from NXT make their main-roster debut on Raw and SmackDown. Ethan Page, Sol Ruca, and Joe Hendry have either joined or are set to join the Raw brand, while Fatal Influence (Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley & Lainey Reid), Ricky Saints, and Blake Monroe have either joined or confirmed to join the SmackDown brand.
These releases will likely help reduce financial strain and make room for newer talent, creating new storylines and matchups.

2. Creative reset or bankruptcy

While releasing names from the developmental brand, injured or inactive superstars make sense when it comes to making room for NXT call-ups. It still doesn’t explain stars such as Kairi Sane, Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, the entire Wyatt Sicks faction, Motor City Machine Guns, or Alba Fyre.
These stars were not only actively featured on weekly programming, but some had matches as recently as last week. Such releases were likely not part of new plans, or the promotion simply didn’t have any good creative plans for them. Aleister Black was released after only one year in his second run without having any major feud or title run, despite being active, which does point to creative bankruptcy on WWE’s part.
1. Budget and roster management

The final and most rational reason for the 24 releases is likely to balance costs and streamline talent. With a large number of signed performers across Raw, SmackDown, and NXT, releases might help reduce financial strain.
Additionally, if the promotion has no creative long-term plans for such stars, their talents will simply be wasted, as has been the case for many incredible performers recently. Maintaining a bloated roster will also hurt the cost cap on salaries, which might be the driving force behind the decision to lay off.
Will more superstars be released as part of the recent cuts?
The promotion might release more superstars as part of the roster cut, but this is just speculation and not a confirmed report.
