Every pro-wrestling company has their very own Triple Crown Champions
The Triple Crown is a prestigious achievement acknowledged by several professional wrestling organizations. It refers to a professional wrestler who has won three titles from a single organization, notably a world championship, another singles championship, and a tag team championship.
WWE, All Elite Wrestling (AEW), Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) and Ring of Honor (ROH) are among the outfits that officially acknowledge Triple Crown champions, as are the defunct World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), and Lucha Underground.
WWE and Triple Crown Champions
In WWE, the phrase Triple Crown Champion has traditionally been used to refer to a wrestler who has won the WWE Championship, the Intercontinental Championship and the World Tag Team Championship. For over 18 years, from 1979 to 1997, these were the company’s only three titles, and a wrestler who won all three (not necessarily consecutively) was known as a “Triple Crown Champion”. Until the 1990s, the feat was exceptionally unusual, with Pedro Morales the only Triple Crown winner for more than a decade.
Following the initial brand split from 2002 to 2011, the (now-defunct) World Heavyweight Championship and the WWE Tag Team Championship were alternative championships that could be part of WWE’s Triple Crown.
Following the unification of the two world championships and two tag team championships, WWE’s only three Triple Crown championships were the WWE Championship, Intercontinental Championship, and WWE Tag Team Championship (later known as the Raw Tag Team Championship, now the World Tag Team Championship). All five qualifying championships have been won by nine men: Edge, Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kane, Big Show, Jeff Hardy, and Randy Orton.
