The buildup for the WarGames matches is already underway.

This week’s Monday Night Raw featured the official announcement for the men’s and women’s WarGames matches, with teams forming ahead of the Survivor Series PLE.

On the women’s side, the WarGames match will feature Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, IYO SKY, and Rhea Ripley. They will face the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane), along with Nia Jax and Lash Legend.

While on the men’s side, the WarGames match will feature World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, Jey Uso, and Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. They will face the team of Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, and Logan Paul.

Both men’s teams are currently two members short, while the women’s team is missing one member. According to a new report, the babyface team will not feature John Cena, as many fans wished.

The idea of having John Cena and Roman Reigns team together is no longer the plan

During a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the projected lineup for the men’s WarGames match, noting that John Cena’s Intercontinental Title victory against Dominik Mysterio in Boston this week altered the original plan for him to face Dominik in San Diego at the PLE.

With that change in place, Meltzer offered some speculation on what the revised direction for the match might be.

“Now that Cena already beat Dominik for the title, I thought that means that match (Mysterio vs. Cena) isn’t happening in San Diego, I figured, why not do Cena, Roman Reigns, Punk, Jey Uso, and Cody Rhodes, and make it like a dream team for the babyface team at WarGames. Now I can tell you that that’s not happening. I was told ‘not even close’.”

Meltzer’s recent comments suggest that the idea of John Cena and Roman Reigns joining forces, a key component of the speculated plans following Rollins’ injury, is no longer moving forward.

It remains to be seen what WWE has planned for Cena and even Roman, for that matter, as he is being advertised for the PLE, but has yet to make his return to partake in the men’s WarGames match. Fans are speculating his return during next week’s Raw at Madison Square Garden.

The final PLE of 2025 sure has a lot of hype and anticipation, and with such big names included in the show, it should deliver as promised. Notably, it will also be John Cena‘s final WWE PLE appearance as he is set to retire next month at the December 13 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
