Four matches for Backlash 2026 that can be announced on WWE SmackDown tonight

WWE SmackDown tonight is headed to the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for its May 1 edition of the show. Tonight’s edition will see the promotion speed up the build towards the upcoming Backlash, likely announcing new matches.

So, before the show tonight at 8 PM, let us take a look at four such potential matchups that General Manager Nick Aldis might announce tonight for the upcoming Backlash PLE in Tampa, Florida.

4. WWE Tag Team titles showdown

GM Nick Aldis can announce a tournament tonight with the winner getting a tag title shot at Backlash. Additionally, he can also book Fraxiom (Axiom & Nathan Frazer) against the reigning Champions at the upcoming PLE, a match which would help the title’s credibility among fans.

3. Royce Keys vs Solo Sikoa

Solo Sikoa continues to remind Royce Keys who the ‘Big Dog’ is and offers him to join the MFTs. However, Keys has yet to answer the offer, although he has made it clear in an interview that he has a history with The Bloodline.

WWE can use this angle to book a long-term feud, which could begin with Keys turning down Solo‘s offer, leading to a beatdown that might be used to book Keys in his first singles match at a WWE PLE.

2. Jacy Jayne’s big break

After multiple main roster call-ups, former NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne finally managed to break through and become a part of the call-ups herself, instantly making a name for herself, targeting massive names in the tag division as well as the Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley.

Jayne has made her intentions clear, and now it’s up to Rhea to respond. A potential title showdown between the two at the upcoming Backlash event would be a proposition few fans would likely turn down.

1. Trick Williams vs Sami Zayn

During last week’s show, Sami Zayn dressed as the gingerbread man crashed Williams’ title celebration, attacking the new United States Champion after losing the title at WrestleMania. The attack signalled that the feud is far from over and Zayn is not letting go of the heel antics.

Sami might complain tonight about Lil Yachty’s interference, which could lead to Nick Aldis announcing a rematch between the two for Backlash.
