All matches announced for WWE Backlash 2026 so far ft. Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Iyo Sky & more

The first PLE after WrestleMania will emanate from Tampa.

Following the conclusion of WrestleMania 42, WWE is now building towards the Backlash PLE. The 2026 edition is set to emanate on May 9th from the Benchmark Arena in Tampa, Florida. As the name suggests, the show will feature the Backlash from WrestleMania.

The 21st edition of the show will be WWE’s first major event to be held in Tampa, Florida, since Hell in a Cell in 2021 during the ThunderDome era. Let us now take a look at the high-stakes matches confirmed for the show.

Roman Reigns will defend the World title against Jacob Fatu

During the WrestleMania fallout show of Raw, Jacob Fatu interrupted Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight title celebration and challenged him to a showdown. Reigns asked Fatu to reconsider and even told the Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) to talk some sense into Fatu.

The Usos tried to steer Fatu towards the Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes, but Fatu refused to back down. The Samoan Werewolf then attacked the Champion on the April 27 show, where Reigns was set to answer the challenge.

Reigns stated that granting Fatu a title shot would be nepotism, but Fatu was having none of it as he attacked Roman with the Tongan Death Grip. As Fatu left the ring after the attack, Roman picked up the mic, announcing his answer and accepting the challenge for Backlash. This will be Reigns’ first title defense since capturing the title at Mania against CM Punk.

On the other hand, Seth Rollins kicked off the April 27 show, calling out Bron Breakker. The promo battle ended with Rollins challenging Breakker to a showdown at the upcoming PLE. WWE later made the match official between the two former stablemates.

During the same show, Asuka helped Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch retain the title in an open challenge against Iyo Sky. Asuka then attacked Iyo after the match, putting her to sleep with a rear-naked choke.

The promotion later made the highly anticipated match official between the two for Tampa. The two were originally scheduled to clash at WrestleMania, but they will battle now, notably, without Kairi Sane, as she was released last week.
