Triple H announced Pat McAfee’s return during the Netflix HQ event
WWE COO Triple H revealed the promotion’s plans to bring Pat McAfee back on the commentary desk when Raw moves to the streaming platform, Netflix next month.
McAfee is a multifaceted sports personality, serving as a college football analyst on ESPN’s College GameDay, hosting his own sports talk show on YouTube, and has worked with WWE as a color commentator and part-time wrestler.
“Letting the cat out of the bag a little bit right now. Pat’s actually about to come back with us here, full-time on Monday Night Raw.” Triple H stated during the Netflix HQ event.
Levesque also confirmed that McAfee will team up with Michael Cole on commentary, with Cole shifting from SmackDown where he currently partners with Corey Graves. The duo will replace the current Raw duo of Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett.
The debut episode of Monday Night Raw on Netflix will officially be held on January 6, 2025. The venue for the premier show will be the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A.
Pat McAfee joined the WWE broadcast team in 2021
McAfee joined the broadcast team in April 2021, he joined Michael Cole on Friday Night SmackDown. His run also included in-ring matches at WrestleMania 38 where he clashed with Austin Theory and emerged victorious. His second match was a subsequent loss to Vince McMahon before he started feuding with Barron Corbin.
McAfee stepped away from the promotion in September 2022 to join ESPN’s College Gameday. However, he made a surprising return at both the 2023 and 2024 Royal Rumbles, as well as at WrestleMania 39, where he challenged The Miz in a winning effort.
Following the announcement the color commentator reacted to the news expressing his excitement about rejoining Michael Cole on the commentary desk next month.
“An absolute honor to be asked back. A Childhood dream realized every single time I’m lucky enough to be in an arena with the @WWE Universe. Can’t wait to be talking into a microphone next to @MichaelCole again.. He’s the 🐐. I’m excited to tell the worldwide audience on Netflix how great the WWE Superstars are…. and how big of scumbags some of ‘em are too. Let’s go” McAfee wrote.
The debut will be the first time in history that the Red brand will not be telecasted on cable networks. The shift to streaming platforms gives the promotion an unprecedented level of creative freedom.
It would be interesting to see what the Stamford-based promotion has in store for fans in the much anticipated January 6 show of the Red brand.
