Multiple top names including current Champions have made appearances on WWE NXT!

Since last week’s episode of WWE NXT, multiple stars from the main roster have made appearances on the show and engaged in storylines with stars from the developmental brand. This sparked speculation that these stars have been demoted to the developmental brand.

While former Tag Champions #DIY (Tomasso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano) made an appearance on last week’s show, this week’s show featured even more stars from the main roster, including WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton and former Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley, among others.

Let us now take a look at the top three possible reasons why WWE is sending main roster talents back to the developmental brand.

3. Push rising stars

The developmental brand is not just another show for the promotion, but is a breeding and training ground for future WWE superstars. The show is designed to train and showcase rising talent before they move up to the main roster

Putting rising stars against proven talents and superstars would not only give exposure to the NXT talents but would also help them learn new things before the eventual promotion to the big leagues.

2. Boosting ratings and building up hype

The presence of top names also helps the developmental brand in ratings, as well as the recent appearances from stars, which would likely be used to build up hype for the upcoming NXT No Mercy. The third annual NXT No Mercy, and the 16th overall, is set to take place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the FTL War Memorial in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In the lead-up to the PLE, the promotion can also book the main roster stars against NXT talents. Proving their worth against a main roster talent helps them get the promotion early. Furthermore, the brand is set to deliver a special show next week, the NXT Homecoming.

The September 16 special episode of NXT Homecoming is set to air live from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. The show will feature main roster stars like Rhea Ripley, Tiffany Stratton, Stephanie Vaquer, Grayson Waller, Carmelo Hayes, #DIY, and Grayson Waller. Notably, all of them are a product of the NXT brand.

1. Fresh Storylines

The arrivals will also help the promotion to create fresh new storylines to engage fans; some of these storylines can also be used in the long term, something WWE CCO Triple H is lauded for, “long-term storytelling.”

There are multiple examples of such stars whose storylines began in NXT. Furthermore, new storylines also create exciting, never-before-seen clashes, which can be beneficial for everyone involved, including the fans.

It still remains to be seen if the current appearances of the main roster talent are just to bring eyeballs for NXT Homecoming and the No Mercy PLE or something that the developmental brand does often.
