Post WWE WrestleMania 42 plans for Roman Reigns, Liv Morgan, Cody Rhodes & more reportedly revealed

Multiple new Champions were crowned at WrestleMania.

The 42nd edition of WWE WrestleMania saw multiple new Champions, while two retained their titles, namely the Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes and Intercontinental Champion Penta.

On the other hand, Roman Reigns and Liv Morgan captured the World title (Raw). The promotion is now gearing up for Backlash 2026, which is set for May 9 at the Benchmark Arena in Tampa, Florida. The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now provided an update on post-WrestleMania plans for multiple stars as Backlash approaches.

Roman Reigns will likely feud with Gunther

As per Dave Meltzer in the latest newsletter, the matchup between Oba Femi and Roman Reigns teased during the Night 2 post-show isn’t going to happen anytime soon. After finishing his feud with Jacob Fatu, Reigns will likely go up against Gunther. Whether the match happens at SummerSlam or later will hinge on Gunther’s decision to challenge Brock Lesnar at the PLE.

On the other hand, World Tag Team Champions Logan Paul and Austin Theory, alongside IShowSpeed, lost a six-man tag team match at Mania to The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) and LA Knight. On this, Metlzer reports that the feud between the two is not expected to continue.

Regarding the Vision’s Logan Paul and Austin Theory, they were part of the segment where Seth Rollins attacked their stablemate Bron Breakker, and they jumped Rollins when the Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) made their return to aid Rollins. This is likely the direction for the World Tag Team Champions post-Mania.

As noted earlier, Penta retained the IC title at Mania, and one of the participants of the IC title ladder match, Je’Von Evans, battled NXT’s call-up past Monday, Ethan Page. However, during the match, Rusev’s interference cost Evans as Page picked up the win.

Penta rushed to aid Evans but was attacked by Rusev, who locked in the accolade, before posing with the title. On this angle, Meltzer stated that Penta will defend the IC title against those three opponents in the months ahead, but didn’t clarify whether the bouts will be singles matches or multi-person contests.

Additionally, the feud between Liv Morgan and Stephanie Vaquer, after Liv defeated Vaquer to win the Women’s World title, will continue. The same was hinted at on the fallout show of Raw, when Vaqer appeared after Liv’s win over Sol Ruca to engage in a heated face-off with Liv.

WWE might book Cody Rhodes vs CM Punk after a rematch

After retaining the title against Randy Orton at WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes appeared during Raw after Mania, engaging in a promo segment with CM Punk.

A potential clash between the two friends with the Undisputed title on the line was hinted at during the segment, with Cody Rhodes telling Punk to just say when he wants the match.

According to Meltzer, Cody is expected to have a rematch with Randy Orton, after which WWE might build towards the clash between Rhodes and Punk. The two stars have not faced each other in their second run, and their most recent singles clash came in 2008.

Furthermore, per Meltzer, Iyo Sky will face Asuka at the upcoming Backlash PLE. The clash was being teased for Mania, but it was ultimately called off as Auska and Kairi Sane were backup for the Women’s Tag Title match if Nikki Bella wasn’t medically cleared, as per reports. Although Paige ended up replacing Nikki, who was not medically cleared to compete.
