The American Nightmare won the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40
After what happened at the main event of WrestleMania, most people are confused about how Cody Rhodes’ future will look from now on. The future here means his possible challenges after winning the Undisputed Title and his opponents, against whom he will defend his prestigious title.
While he is advertised for this week’s Smackdown, here is a list of potential opponents he could have who would try to shatter his dreams and turn them into nightmares in no time.
AJ Styles
After his heel turn, AJ Styles is all over the minds of people who love professional wrestling, as they want him to have a good single run just like what he had in 2016. Though he lost against LA Knight in his WrestleMania match, people could potentially look at him as the first challenger to Cody Rhodes. After his loss, AJ looks like a hungry lion who wants something big to happen with him, and a feud against Cody is what he will need to gain momentum again.
The Rock
Even though both Rock and Cody shook their hands during this week’s Monday Night Raw, it looks like something is going on in Final Boss’s mind. While the Rock said, ‘Don’t you break my heart ever again’ on the Raw, it seems like the Rock will come back and eventually challenge Cody for the Universal Title so that he can be assured that Cody is the right one to be the face of the company after dethroning his cousin Roman Reigns.
CM Punk
The best in the world is currently building up his feud against Drew McIntrye, but eventually, one should think about how big this feud would be if it took place. The feud might start because of what happened in the Royal Rumble this year, where Punk was eliminated by Cody.
Since Punk is very fond of trash-talking, he might also trigger Cody somehow, which could later build up to their match, probably in next year’s WrestleMania, where Punk can possibly get his WrestleMania moment for the very first time in his career of professional wrestling.
Gunther
After his loss against Sami Zayn, Gunther must be looking for a better opportunity than a mid-card wrestler. While some people think he shouldn’t have lost it, others think that this is his time to be the best version of himself and be in the main event picture alongside Cody to get a shot at the Undisputed title. Though it might take some time to happen, it will take place eventually, and people could see a great feud between the two.

Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar’s last feud before he took a break from WWE was against Cody. It was Lesnar who lost his WWE Championship against Roman, and now might be his time to reclaim his title of the beast incarnate and challenge Cody Rhodes for his undisputed championship.
Though it seems like Cody and him are on the same page, it will take him no time to be a beast again and betray Cody, just like he did in the tag team match against Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa.
Nobody knows what is currently on the mind of Triple H since most of the things he does are unpredictable, so one should wait and keep on smelling what WWE is cooking and what innings they are on with Cody Rhodes.
