Jey Uso and Gunther missed out on the WrestleMania 41 main event

WWE is inching close towards its biggest show of the year, WrestleMania 41, set to take place on April 19 and 20 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Moreover, the main event for both nights have been set in stone and one match missed out despite being a frontrunner.

That is Jey Uso vs Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. The YEET man won the 2025 WWE Royal Rumble match and chose Gunther as his opponent. But despite that, they are not the headliner match for either WrestleMania night, and here are five reasons why that happened:

5. The fans have seen the match multiple times

When Jey Uso won the Royal Rumble, fans were hoping to see a different bout for his World title. Instead, they got another Jey vs Gunther match, which literally happened a week before his Rumble and on multiple occasions in 2024, where Jey failed each time. Seeing a repeat match at a stage like WrestleMania did not garner much attention, which possibly led to it missing the main event slot.

4. Jey Uso has been built as the weak link

Jey Uso had a loud reaction after winning the 2025 Royal Rumble match. However, it has been downhill for the YEET man ever since. At every step of the way, he has been overpowered by Gunther and made to look like the weak link, which has made the fans lose interest in the storyline who were behind him throughout. This can be a major reason why Jey vs Gunther is not the main event of WrestleMania 41.

3. Jimmy Uso’s inclusion has shifted the focus from Jey Uso

The WrestleMania storyline for Jey Uso should be centered around him. Instead, his brother Jimmy Uso got more attention in the storyline, such as when he slapped Gunther really hard. This has taken away all the attention from the YEET man, leading to the storyline losing its aura and not being a candidate for the main event of WrestleMania this year.

2. Use of mid-card talents has derailed the momentum of the match

The feud between Jey Uso and Gunther has been built around mid-card talent, which has been included in the storyline. This included stars like A-Town Down Under and Alpha Academy, which did not build any interest among fans. This can also be a major reason for the World title match not getting the coveted WrestleMania spot this year.

1. Lackluster storyline build-up

One of the most important and prime reasons identified for Jey Uso and Gunther’s match not being the main event bout is the lackluster build-up of their feud. The matches leading up to the event, lack of meaningful creative direction, and the overall weak presentation of Jey Uso have garnered no significant reactions for this match. This led to it becoming more of a mid-card match and losing its place in the main event of WrestleMania 41 this year.
