The company has made some major changes in their roster after the TKO takeover

Professional wrestling has existed for many decades, the unfortunate fact is that, at its core, professional wrestling has always been and will continue to be a business. The goal was always to sell tickets and make money. The world’s top promotions still have the same bottom line.

In recent years, WWE has established a habit of removing stars through mass releases. Some prominent stars were removed from WWE in 2020, and the trend has continued into 2021. Certain releases made complete sense. However, there are a few decisions that WWE may come to regret later on.

Now, in 2024, we’ve compiled a list of five WWE superstars who WWE will regret releasing:

5. Jinder Mahal

Jinder Mahal, the former WWE Champion, was once again released by the company in 2024. The 38-year-old was previously released from the company in 2014, but returned in 2016 and, after putting a lot of work into his health and physique, rose to the top of WWE when he defeated Randy Orton at Backlash 2017 to win his first world title.

In the years that followed, he would hold the United States Championship and the 24/7 Championship, and he even challenged Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship in January 2024. Now that he’s back in the free agency pool, Mahal told “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” that while he’s cool with leaving WWE, he’s still a bit frustrated.

4. Dijak

Dijak has looked into fan opinion in the wake of his WWE exit. The former “WWE NXT” star ended his career with the organization last month, with the company declining to renew his contract despite his willingness to negotiate.

He stated that with his departure, a group of fans were attempting to “affirm” WWE’s choice to preserve their love of the product. He recognizes it is a business choice, but he believes he is worth his wage. “They obviously saved X amount of dollars. Do I think I’m worth X amount of dollars? Yes, I do. But I’m me and I’m biased.”

3. Dolph Ziggler AKA Nic Nemeth

Dolph Ziggler’s WWE release surprised many fans, but the former Superstar wanted it to happen. While appearing on the “Eyes Up Here” podcast, the wrestler who now goes by Nic Nemeth said that he sought his release and messaged Vince McMahon directly to make it happen.

Nemeth said that WWE wanted him to compete for a few more years before moving him to a behind-the-scenes position. However, he intended to spend his remaining in-ring years honing his skills and having the bouts he had always desired abroad. After he stopped obtaining as much television time, he contacted the top brass and advised them to stop paying him millions of dollars to serve as an enhancement talent.

2. Ricochet

Ricochet handed his notice to WWE last month and has left WWE. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, while he has yet to sign a new deal with WWE, he did not decide what he wanted to do until last month.

There was a strong impression he was departing, and he chose on June 9. The angle with Bron Breakker to write him out was subsequently completed on RAW the following night. Ricochet’s plans for life beyond WWE remain unknown. But it is expected that he will join AEW.

1. Bobby Lashley

Fightful Select has provided an update on the WWE contract situation of former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley. According to the source, Lashley‘s contract is set to expire in the next month or two.

Additionally, Lashley was removed from WWE’s internal roster, while he is still listed on the company’s official website. Lashley, 48, hasn’t competed for WWE since early May. According to Fightful, Lashley intends to continue wrestling if he cannot reach an agreement with WWE to extend his contract.

Bobby Lashley has had tremendous success after rejoining the company over six years ago in 2018.

Since his comeback, he’s won two Intercontinental Championships, two United States Championships, and the WWE Championship, defeating The Miz to earn his first major world championship for the organization in March 2021. He went on to win the championship again at the 2022 Royal Rumble. He also won the Andre the Giant Battle Royal before last year’s WrestleMania 39.
