WWE SummerSlam might feature some shocking returns.

WWE SummerSlam is only one day away from captivating the fans for two straight nights. The first-ever two-night extravaganza is set to take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 2nd and 3rd at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and is expected to be a blockbuster on both nights.

Adding major spice to this historic event, WWE can pull off some major shockers with the resurgence of top superstars. So, here are the top five names that can return at WWE SummerSlam this year:

5. Ilja Dragunov

The Mad Dragon, Ilja Dragunov, had a great start on the main roster last year before he suffered a knee injury at a WWE house show.

However, recent reports hint that Dragunov is nearing his full recovery. To establish his presence once again in the landscape, a return at SummerSlam could make perfect sense for Ilja Dragunov in front of a sold-out MetLife Stadium.

4. Chad Gable

Chad Gable has been out of action with a shoulder injury. In his absence, two superstars have donned the mask of his alter-ego, El Grande Americano, an act that has become widely popular among fans.

WWE can take advantage by planning a Spider-Man meme-type scenario for one of the nights at SummerSlam, where all three masked men appear at the same time and get into an altercation, much to the thrill of the fans in New Jersey.

3. Rey Mysterio

Among the injury list of the WWE roster, Rey Mysterio is also a top name who went down with a groin injury one night before WrestleMania 41, leading to him being replaced by Rey Fenix in his scheduled match against El Grande Americano.

Should he be medically cleared, WWE can bring him back at SummerSlam, possibly to do an angle in the WWE Intercontinental title match between his estranged son, Dominik Mysterio, and The Phenomenal AJ Styles.

2. Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins’ remarkable run as a top heel on RAW was derailed with a knee injury. While some reports say it is legitimate, others disagree.

Should Rollins be playing a ruse with this angle, he could make his shocking return at SummerSlam and cash in the Money in the Bank contract on the winner of the match between CM Punk and Gunther and win the World Heavyweight title in another historic moment of his career.

1. The Rock

John Cena surprised the audience by turning face once again during his confrontation with Cody Rhodes on the SmackDown before SummerSlam. He also berated The Rock in his promo by subtly mentioning that the people who turned him heel left him ‘high and dry.’

This could pave the way for the return of The Final Boss at SummerSlam and finally corrupt Cody Rhodes to sell his soul and take out Cena in one of the most shocking finishes to the event.

When and where will WWE SummerSlam 2025 take place?

The 2025 edition of WWE SummerSlam is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 2 and 3, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Where can fans tune in to watch night one of the PLE live?

Fans in the United States can catch all the action live on Peacock, while international fans can tune into Netflix for the show (excluding some markets).
