Rey Mysterio announces Team USA vs Team Mexico match for PLE
In his guest appearance on Stephanie McMahon’s podcast, the General Manager of AAA gave a sneak preview of a five-on-five match between Team USA and Team Mexico. This gives a new twist to the event of Survivor Series, along with the increasing popularity of Lucha Libre in the Stamford-based promotion.
The WWE Hall of Famer said that he had talked about this match concept to Raw General Manager Adam Pearce and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. There is going to be a classic five-on-five match of Survivor Series where the wrestlers will be from the United States and Mexico.
“The overall vision for AAA and how it has evolved to where it is now shows how much of an impact lucha libre has made on wrestling worldwide. I had a couple of conversations with Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis, and we’re going to put together something very special: a classic 5-on-5 Survivor Series match at Survivor Series, with Team USA taking on Team Mexico.”
When Stephanie inquired about his participation in the match, Rey did not state anything about his intentions because the teams are yet to be finalized. This means his participation in the match is still in doubt.
The news is quite interesting considering that Mysterio is connected with both the Mexican wrestling scene and the Stamford-based promotion. He was among the biggest stars who helped introduce lucha libre to fans worldwide. The suggested match might allow for showcasing the talents of some Mexican performers, namely Penta, Rey Fenix, and Dragon Lee.
