WWE SmackDown will have some interesting matches & segments this week

The June 20, 2025, edition of WWE SmackDown comes to us from the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and it promises to deliver another high-impact chapter on the road to Night of Champions.

With just over a week left for the premium live event, tensions are beginning to boil over, and tonight’s episode is expected to raise the stakes in multiple ongoing rivalries.

From championship contenders battling for final spots in the King and Queen of the Ring tournament to long-standing grudges spilling into the ring, WWE SmackDown is set to be a must-watch.

Here are the top five storylines to follow.

5. Seth Rollins’ anger against Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso

Seth Rollins has been bubbling with frustration ever since missing out on previous championship opportunities, and last week on WWE SmackDown only intensified his fury.

After an explosive Fatal 4-Way main event on Raw featuring Jey Uso, Bronson Reed, Sheamus, and Rusev, it was Uso who emerged victorious by pinning Reed amidst the chaos caused by outside interference from Bron Breakker, Penta, and Sami Zayn.

The aftermath saw Rollins storm into the arena, seemingly with intentions to make Jey Uso pay. However, his path was blocked by none other than Cody Rhodes, who prevented him from attacking Jey.

This moment is significant not just because of their personal history, but because it teases the possibility of Rollins cashing in his Money in the Bank contract in dramatic fashion. With tensions rising between all three men, tonight’s episode may provide another clue as to where Rollins is headed next.

4. John Cena takes on Ron Killings (R-Truth) – Non-title match

R-Truth has been a thorn in John Cena’s side ever since WWE Backlash, and last week proved no different. Truth blindsided Cena not once but twice, once after the SmackDown’s opening segment and again following Cena’s tense war of words with CM Punk.

This unrelenting aggression prompted General Manager Nick Aldis to give Truth what he wanted, a match with “The Champ.”

Tonight on WWE SmackDown, Cena and Truth will square off in a non-title match. While Cena may appear to be the clear favorite, Truth’s unpredictable new persona and his willingness to push boundaries add a layer of intrigue to this bout.

Don’t be surprised if CM Punk involves himself to further stir the pot ahead of a potential showdown with Cena at Night of Champions.

3. King & Queen of the Ring semifinals set to shake up title pictures

Tonight’s SmackDown will feature two pivotal semifinal matches in the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments.

On the men’s side, Sami Zayn faces off against Randy Orton. Zayn has been rolling with momentum but faces psychological warfare from Karrion Kross, who insists Sami must “embrace the darkness” to win.

Orton, on the other hand, has his eyes locked on a 15th World Championship and isn’t shy about going through friend or foe to get there, even if that means facing Cody Rhodes in the finals.

The Queen of the Ring semifinal will see Alexa Bliss take on Asuka, who recently returned to WWE after a hiatus.

Bliss has been on a mission to reclaim her spot at the top of the division, but Asuka’s unpredictability and submission mastery make her a formidable obstacle. The winner will go on to compete for the crown at Night of Champions.

2. The Bloodline tensions reach a boiling point

The cracks in the new-look Bloodline continue to widen, especially between Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. After Fatu failed to capture the Money in the Bank contract, Sikoa delivered an ominous warning: fall in line or face consequences. That confrontation may escalate tonight.

Adding more fire to the flame is the expected appearance of Hikuleo, who reportedly debuted during a Main Event taping. If Sikoa does introduce Hikuleo to the WWE Universe tonight on WWE SmackDown, Fatu could very well be the first one to feel the wrath of this potentially dangerous addition to The Bloodline.

1. Zelina Vega & Giulia’s rivalry begins

After weeks of tension, the rivalry between Zelina Vega and Giulia is finally set to begin in earnest. Giulia turned on Vega after assisting her against Piper Niven, sending a clear message that she’s coming for the WWE Women’s United States Championship.

Last week, Vega demanded a confrontation with Nick Aldis, but Giulia was nowhere to be found. That could change on WWE SmackDown tonight, as it has been confirmed that both women will appear in a face-to-face segment. Given the combustible nature of both superstars, don’t expect this meeting to stay civil for long. A physical altercation feels inevitable, potentially setting up their title clash for Night of Champions.
