Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley will battle for the title shot.
WWE SmackDown returns with the October 9 edition this Friday on the night before Money in the Bank 2026. The October 2 edition handed a complete list of participants for the ladder matches, and just before the big night, every contestant will have a chance to address fans at Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana, and prove their mettle.
Meanwhile, Tatum Paxley and Charlotte Flair will have an opportunity to win the tag team title, as GM Nick Aldis confirmed the matchup last Friday.
After falling short of the Money in the Bank qualification, Flair consoled Tatum with a title opportunity she earned from the SmackDown General Manager. The challengers already have momentum, having defeated the champions in a non-title match on September 4, with Paxley pinning Reid after Cemetery Drive.
It will be interesting to see whether Flair and Paxley can overcome their lack of established chemistry, wherein veteran Flair brings extensive tag-team experience, and Paxley is still developing on the main roster.
As for Fatal Influence, the duo has the advantage of functioning as an established unit. The champions also cannot afford complacency after their previous defeat.
In other advertised events, CM Punk will be in the ring on the October 9 episode of WWE SmackDown, although there is no particular match booked for the Second City Saint.
Along with him, other MITB contenders, including Kevin Owens and Trick Williams, are expected to face the fans in Lafayette, Louisiana. Cody Rhodes and Gunther are also included among the featured superstars for the show.
