The 2025 edition of Backlash features four title clashes!
The 2025 edition of WWE Backlash is set to deliver an action-packed night of wrestling as it returns for its 20th edition. The PLE will take place on Saturday, May 10, from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
The show will follow WrestleMania 41, which delivered two nights of unforgettable moments and multiple title changes. WWE is planning to deliver a similar experience for fans; the main event of the show will feature John Cena defending the Undisputed title for the first time against Randy Orton.
Ahead of the PLE, let us take a look at the top five surprises that might be in store for WWE fans in St. Louis at Backlash.
5. Gunther decimates Pat McAfee
Former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther is set to lock horns with WWE Broadcaster and iconic sports analyst Pat McAfee in a singles match. The Ring General is looking to make an example out of McAfee, who not only stood up to him while he was attacking Michael Cole but also had very harsh things to say about him on the commentary booth.
While the likelihood of Pat winning is slim, the likelihood of Gunther battering the beloved broadcaster might be in the books for May 10th.

4. El Grande Americano costs Penta
Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio is set for a title defense at the PLE as he will meet Penta in a rematch. Penta earned this opportunity by defeating JD McDonagh on the go-home show of Raw, after fighting on three fronts as he was fending off attacks and interference from the Judgment Day and Chad Gable while battling McDonagh.
Penta might have to do the same at Backlash during his IC title clash against Mysterio, however, this time, instead of Chad Gable, El Grande Americano might be the one to strike the luchador, kicking off a feud between the two in the absence of Rey Mysterio.
3. Jacob Fatu retains
Jacob Fatu will defend the United States title in a fatal four-way match against LA Knight, Drew McIntyre, and Damian Priest. While the severity of the threat to Fatu and his title is very high, the US Champion has showcased that he can comfortably hang with them.
Additionally, a win over names like McIntyre and Priest would further improve his stock in front of fans who are already behind the Samaon Werewolf. However, Drew McIntyre also stands a strong chance of winning, especially after he took advantage of a distracted Jacob Fatu and dropped him with a Claymore on the May 9 episode of SmackDown, a move he could very well repeat in the upcoming fatal four-way.

2. Bayley returns
WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria will put the title on the line against Becky Lynch on May 10th. The match was set up following their fallout on Raw after WrestleMania, where Lynch turned on Lyra after losing the Women’s Tag Team titles.
After the heel turn, Lynch also revealed that she was the one who attacked Bayley backstage during WrestleMania 41, forcing her out of the tag title match alongside Lyra Valkyria. Bayley has since been out of action and might make her return at Backlash to cost Lynch the title, exacting her revenge for the unprovoked attack.
1. Randy Orton wins
John Cena will defend the Undisputed title in the main event of the PLE against Randy Orton. While the chances for Orton to win the title match are slim, as reflected even in the betting odds, the Viper can still register a victory at the PLE.
The storyline for Cena will likely be defending the title at Backlash and then a reignited feud with Cody Rhodes which likely ends in rematch before Cena retires, if the promotion has such plans, Cena will likely win clean or Orton will emerge victorious via DQ, due to an outside interference from Travis Scott again, leading to a tag team clash between the two teams with Cody joining Orton’s side at MITB or maybe SummerSlam.
