The Celtic Warrior has been moved to the alumni section.

The news of multi-time World Champion Sheamus parting ways with WWE left many fans puzzled. Per Fightful, Sheamus will be leaving WWE as his contract is expiring. The report adds that the multi-time Champion rejected a restructured extension offer made by the company.

The Celtic Warrior was out of action since late 2025 as he suffered a shoulder injury that forced him to undergo surgery. The departure was also seemingly confirmed by the promotion when they moved him to the alumni section.

Sheamus turning down the approach to restructuring his contract was the same situation that led to the New Day’s (Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston) high-profile exit. Although Sheamus was not released, his contract was due to expire anyway.

This also means he won’t be subjected to the standard 90-day non-compete clause and can sign with any promotion immediately as a free agent.

Regarding the exits related to disagreement over restructuring contracts, Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio provided an insight into the company’s decision.

TKO prioritizes younger stars over veterans in WWE contract strategy

Metlzer noted that TKO is prepared to offer massive contracts to talents whom it views as top stars. However, when it comes to veteran talent, the company prefers to invest in younger wrestlers with greater long-term potential rather than committing high salaries to older WWE stars who are believed to be past their prime.

“The TKO thing, from talking to people there on this and other situations is they are willing, very willing to pay really really really giant money to people who they perceive as the stars, like a sports team.

But when it’s older wrestlers who they perceive as being on their downside and have big contracts, they’re very much like a NFL team that will go, rather than pay a guy a giant salary who’s on the downside, we would rather spend our resources on somebody younger, who also we can pay less too.”

He also added that he was not surprised by Sheamus’ contract situation, as he fits the profile of a veteran wrestler whom TKO would likely be less inclined to offer a lucrative long-term deal.

“So, that offer to Sheamus really doesn’t surprise me at all. He would be a guy I would expect something like this to happen.”

What is TKO’s approach to WWE talent contracts?

Per Dave Meltzer, TKO is willing to offer lucrative contracts to wrestlers it views as top stars. However, the company is more cautious about committing massive deals to veteran talent it believes is nearing the latter stages of their careers.

Will Sheamus have a 90-day non-compete clause?

No, since his contract is expiring rather than being terminated, he is not expected to be subject to WWE’s standard 90-day non-compete clause and could sign with another promotion immediately.
