Drew McIntyre’s dream was shattered once again, this time in his hometown
WWE Clash at the Castle 2024 concluded with a dramatic turn of events as Drew McIntyre failed to capture the World Heavyweight Championship from Damian Priest, largely due to CM Punk’s shock interference. Disguised as a match official, Punk’s actions thwarted McIntyre’s quest for victory in front of his home crowd in Scotland. This interference has set the stage for a heated rivalry between McIntyre and Punk, promising intense confrontations in the weeks to come.
One of the hallmarks of the Triple H era in WWE has been the emphasis on long-term storytelling. McIntyre’s ongoing frustration with Punk, dating back to Survivor Series last year, has been a significant storyline. Punk not only played a role in ending McIntyre’s previous world title reign but has also continuously obstructed his path back to the championship. With Punk’s recent actions at Clash at the Castle, McIntyre now has even more motivation to settle the score once Punk is fully cleared to return to in-ring action.
What was CM Punk’s role in Drew McIntyre’s losses?
Punk’s intervention was deliberate, given McIntyre’s constant insults and challenges to him. The choice to include Punk in the main event of Clash at the Castle was intentional, ensuring that McIntyre’s defeat did not harm his reputation. This interference helps McIntyre to maintain his heel character, giving him plenty of incentive to lash out at Punk, who continues to haunt his title dreams.
Damian Priest has successfully defended his World Heavyweight Championship after paying in his Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania XL. Although Punk’s intervention exposed Priest’s flaws, his victory at Clash at the Castle cemented his status as RAW’s dominating champion. With his title reign intact, Priest now confronts the prospect of fresh contenders, laying the groundwork for potentially interesting rivalries.

CM Punk is set make his in-ring return soon as he will be coming to WWE SmackDown this week
CM Punk’s actions at Clash at the Castle have fans eagerly awaiting his full return to in-ring competition. During the post-show, Punk revealed that he is close to being cleared from his tricep injury. He expressed optimism about receiving clearance after meeting with his doctors and hinted at making an announcement on the June 21 episode of Friday Night SmackDown in Chicago.
“I’ve been cleared for only referee duty. I had a little bit of a hiccup out there, but we will go back to the lab to reassess. I can tell you that my arm feels amazing. I got permission to skip Raw in Corpus Christi to go home to Chicago to see my doctors with the idea that I will be cleared,” Punk said at the post-show conference.
Punk also addressed his anticipated clash with McIntyre, dismissing the idea of a stipulation-heavy match in favor of a straightforward confrontation.
“…I don’t want to ever do a Hell in a Cell. I don’t want to ever do a Ladder Match. I’m going to beat him up with my two fists, right? He wants to make fun of my tricep, I’m going to hurt him with it. I’m going to figure out something, maybe learn a new hold,” Punk stated.
The aftermath of WWE Clash at the Castle 2024 has paved the way for a strong rivalry between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk, with dramatic encounters in the coming weeks.
