2k24 is one of the best WWE games of all time

With the studio’s pause following the fiasco that was WWE 2K20, intervals of more than a year between new iterations in the WWE 2K series are now firmly in the past. WWE 2K, like many other sports simulation series, has returned to publishing a new game each year.

That implies that by the time we play the most recent game for the first time, production will have already begun on the game that will succeed a year later.

That means that, while we’re still working through WWE 2K24’s MyRise or dominating the wrestling world as a general manager in MyGM, WWE 2K25 is almost here. We know a few things about it already.

Granted, not much so far because it’s still a long way off, but the first information regarding the eleventh chapter in WWE’s primary series of games since 2K took over from THQ is now available, and we’ve compiled everything we know thus far below.

When will WWE 2k25 be released?

Before the hiatus caused by WWE 2K20, WWE games were published around the same time every year. It was generally October, a busy month for video game launches, as developers wanted to get their new products out before the Christmas season. When 2K returned with WWE 2K22, it turned the tried-and-true model upside down, pushing the release date back to March.

2K has kept with that method ever since, and while it means new WWE games are released months after the holidays, it makes a lot of sense.

Every year, new WWE games are released just before WrestleMania. It’s that time of year when casual fans tune in, and if they see commercials for the new WWE 2K game, they might buy a copy.

Take-Two Interactive, 2K’s parent company, has all but ensured that the system will continue until 2025. In a recent earnings report, a table of planned games from Take-Two’s studios included WWE 2K25.

Not only does this confirm the game’s existence and the fact that development on it has already begun, but it is also scheduled to be released before the conclusion of the current fiscal year.

That is anytime between now and March 31, 2025, but probably certainly around the time the final several games were released, so somewhere around March.

Potential crossovers with different wrestling promotion brands

Although Grace’s statements confirm that MyRise will be returning in WWE 2K25, it’s reasonable to believe that the next game will not be a major redesign of the franchise and that the other primary game modes from 2K24 will be returning next year.

That means choosing the theme for another showcase mode, and in my opinion, there is only one option: a showcase mode dedicated to Bray Wyatt’s career.

Following Wyatt’s death, there were reports that 2K was working on a showcase mode centred on him for WWE 2K24. Wyatt died in August 2023, therefore I believe the choice to have the following game’s showcase WrestleMania-themed was already taken.

It would also have been hurried, and if 2K is going to curate a Wyatt showcase mode, it should be allowed the time to do so well.

Hopefully, the reports were half-true, and Wyatt will be the centrepiece of 2K25’s showcase mode. In terms of wishes and forecasts, additional MyGM expansions would be ideal.

The mode has been sought for many years, and while it is fantastic and has been improved year after year, there is still plenty of space for growth. The possibility to compete with other players online would be an excellent approach to advance the mode.

The Universe mode could also need some upgrades. It appears to receive less attention due to the focus on MyFaction and other new modes, but a sandbox in which to create your own WWE is where many fans spend the majority of their time each year.

One of the greatest desires is that 2K implements a live service model, even if it’s simply updating ratings and potentially adding new stars throughout the year to represent the current product, but as usual, we don’t see that dream coming true anytime soon.
