‘The Ring General’ is set to defend his title against Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41

“The Ring General” Gunther, since making his debut on the main roster, has defined what dominance is, with his historic Intercontinental title run which lasted a total of 666 days. He then defeated Damian Priest at SummerSlam 2024 PLE to become the World Heavyweight Champion.

The Ring General has defended the title five times since SummerSlam 2024, and is now set to battle “Main Event” Jey Uso at the 41st edition of WrestleMania PLE. This would be a rematch from their first meeting at the January 25, 2025 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event where Jey failed to pin the champion.

Jey got another shot at the champion after eliminating John Cena and winning the 2025 men’s Royal Rumble match. With the win, Jey punched his ticket to WrestleMania and picked the World Heavyweight Champion for the grandest stage in April.

The two stars are now feuding ahead of their title clash where Gunther has promised to make life ‘hell’ for Jey until Mania. The Ring General has kept his promise, ambushing Jey when he least expected it and putting him to sleep, showcasing a teaser for Mania.

Wade Barrett reveals that Gunther is a FC Schalke 04 fan

While the Ring General grew up supporting his hometown football club, SK Rapid Wien, he also follows the Bundesliga, which is the top tier of the German football league system.

On the 03/14 show of Friday Night SmackDown, Wade Barrett on the commentary booth stated that the Ring General is a Bayern Munich fan. However, Barrett later took to his X handle and clarified that he made an error, revealing that Gunther is in fact FC Schalke 04 fan.

FC Schalke is based in the Schalke district of Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The club is most famous for its football team, which competes in the 2. Bundesliga, the second division of German football. The “04” in the club’s name refers to its founding year in 1904. Schalke has become one of the most beloved professional football teams in Germany.
